I currently have an issue with the bass detail being extracted from my speakers.

System Mf A3.2 int and cd, castle avon speakers.

The treble is virtually as good as I could achieve. I have never contemplated using a subwoofer, apart from with av home audio.

I am wondering if a subwoofer will add the bass gain I aspire for? Also could the amp act as a control for the sub.

There are so many different types of subs that I am slightly bamboozled as to what type to use and I would greatly appreciate any advice.

If you could also tell me how to configure this, that would help me immensely. Thank you in advance for any time taken to help solve my dilemma

Hi,

I think you need to be rather more specific about what you are missing from your current setup.

For example, if what is missing is bass punch and clarity then a sub woofer is unlikely to help, similarly if it lacks focus, pace and drive on more uptempo tracks, it is not going to help with that either.

You may be fortunate in that there is a 'fix' that will give you what you want at sensible cost, but frankly I doubt it.

When I was a dealer, we used to find this kind of issue was commonplace, the phrase "I don't think I'm quite getting the best from my system" comes to mind.

Pretty near impossible to deal with, mostly we would just play a decent, well sorted system that cost less than that owned by the customer and let them work it out for themselves.

Sealed subs (as oposed to ported) tend to be better with music. Many subs will have connections for both low level (LF) and high level (HF) connections. The LF would normally be connected to an AV amp, whilst the HF connection would be to a hifi amp. In my case with a BK sub (http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers.htm,) the HF connection comprises of 3 wires, each connecting to one of my amps speaker output posts (leaving one post free of a connection). This type of HF connection wont stop the full bandwidth going to your Castle speakers though, but the crossover can be adjusted on the sub. Also have a look at some videos on y...tube of how to set up/place a sub in your room.

I read that the Castle Avon speakers can be adjusted for their bass output, and their position in your room, and the room itself can also make a difference. Also, what type of bass do you think you are missing? what type of music is missng the bass. And what is your budget?

Many thanks for your assistance. I decided not to persevere with this speaker. I sold it and bought a pair of proac for a 100 quid difference. This has brought me nearer to where I needed to be and long term will prove more cost effective. Thankyou though for your input, really much appreciated
