After extensive research I have narrowed my chice of TV's down to these two.....

Panasonic 46PZ80 or Pioneer 4280

Both are roughly the same price but I just can't make my mind up.I will be viewing a mixture of SD and HD.My sources are SkyHD and Blu-Ray (via a PS3) and my main viewing distance is just over 9 feet but I do have chairs closer at 6 feet and another one at 12 feet.

At the moment I have a 37PX60 which I find to be too small and films/HD content lacks impact.I do not want to make the mistake of buying too small again but I am also worried that SD might look a bit ropey on a 46" panel.

Any views/advice would be greatfully recieved.

my 42 is fine at these distances not sure what the 46 is like though im sure they are people who have the 46pz85 on this site what you need to do is type 46pz85 into the seach box and then look on the posts as some people have said they've got them on order and then you can ask them, im sure sd will be exactly the same on the two models.

just a thought if no one that actually owns one answers you

I would go for the Panasonic. However, you really need to see both sets in action to be able to tell for yourself. After all, tv pictures are open to of personal taste, just like the sound you get from different hi-fi products. I think you may find that the Pioneer has more realistic colours, and deeper blacks, than the Panasonic, but the Panasonic's picture will be cleaner and sharper with better line definition. The Pioneer's picture could be likened to that of a top-notch CRT telly (except a bit slimmer and with a bigger screen obviously!). As the Pioneer has a lower resolution to the Panasonic, you may find the Pioneer to be more forgiving when showing standard-def content. Having said this, the new Pannys are pretty good with standard-def.

So, I really recommend you get yourself down to a decent av specialist so you can see both tvs in action and, hopefully, calibrated and set-up correctly. Also, could someone tell me the difference between the Panasonic PZ80 and PZ85 models?

Thanks for the replies.

The big difference between the PZ80 and PZ85 (apart from looks) is that there is no IFC on the PZ80.There are a few other features missing as well (can't remember what they are but they are not worth worrying about as far as I can remember)

Also, I believe the PZ80 has the 3rd HDMI socket on the front (as opposed to round the back of the 85)

Yes, I had the same dilemma.
I was particularly concerned about the full HD/HD ready issue. However, I eventually managed to convince myself that I was simply chasing numbers.
In the end I went for the Pio 4280. I am not disappointed.
