Please help I am at my wits end :-(

My wireless has stopped working on my laptop, LAN connection fine (online writing this).

Wireless network is transmitting fine as my sons computer logs on ok.

As soon asI unplug my LAN cable my computer (Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile) tells me there are no networks available.

Help, am I being stupid

If you haven't already, reboot everything (ie laptop and wireless router, cable modem if you have one) - it's a cliche but works more often than not.

If that doesn't do it... anything changed on the laptop - new software?

Sounds really obvious, but check that your wireless transmitter is turned on (on the laptop itself, there should be a little switch somewhere).

Well, today I installed 1gb of extra RAM.

Turned on was fine with wireless, turned off, turned back on again nothing, nil points nowt.

Re started router and computer several times - no joy

My sons laptop connects no problems

Wireless light is on but windows does not appear to be searching for networks??

Have reinstalled my router driver, my ethernet driver and the computer wireless driver, still to no avail.

if reboot does not work, reset your settings to yesterday's configuration (assuming you are using windows)

Is there any way apart from the light being on (which it is) to see if the wireless is "actually on".

Agree Joel, but want to know why my damn wireless is not working. It is like its disabled somewhere (or something is missing), because the driver says its ok :-(

Are you hard-wired into the router as the 'admin' computer and your son uses a wireless adapter? When I disconnected the router from the cable modem once (can't remember what for) I re-connected the ethernet cables the wrong way round. The yellow cable goes from the cable modem to the router and a grey cable connects my Mac to the router. Connect them the other way round and I have no internet.

Edited to say doh you're using a laptop. You could always try hard wiring directly to the router. The other thing I thought of was did you previously set up a password for your network? If so you may have to find where to re-enter it in the router or Windows software. Also, I don't use the Belkin software for re-connecting, I use the Windows facility instead as that fixes problems immediately when the PC doesn't find the network. The Belkin software doesn't.

Hard wire works fine.

Seems like windows isnt even searching for wireless networks even though the light is on, does not even find my network for me to put my WEP key in!!

Son is using wireless also, no problems. Must be hardware / software on my laptop, but I dont know what because beloved windows says everything is fine (well it obviously isnt!! grr)

So does it find any networks?? Can you put a screen print up of the windows wireless box to see what it shows??

Re-installed everything to no avail.

Wireless light is on but it is almost like there is no sofware running to allow it to search for networks.

All windows says is help finding available networks, which is about as much use as...........

Is there a way in CMD that I can check to see if the wireless is working / on (not just indicating)

I doubt it's the problem, but just to be sure, go into your BIOS and make sure the adapter is enabled in there (if the option exists to turn it on/off within the BIOS).

Back to Windows... in a cmd window, type (without the quotes) "ipconfig /all" - as a starting point, what is the result from entering that command?

In the meantime I am going to purchase a wireless usb dongle so at least I can work wirelessly.

What version of windows is it? If vista, it sounds like "network discovery" is switched off.

click start>control panel>network and internet>network and sharing centre......then check network discovery is switched on!!

Have you told the router to sto broadcasting it's SSID? by any chance. for some reason Windows wonto log onto a network the first time if the SSiD is not being broadcast.

To resolve turn the SSID back on by logging onto the router while connected by ethernet.

Windows should now see the network and you should be able to log on using wireless.

Now you can turn SSID off again.

You should find that the laptop logs on fine despite the fact that the network is invisible again.
