I am looking at getting a PS3 soon, but I am so very confused about the darn thing its almost offputting. Firstly, I happened to notce the SACD logo on the side of one in my local home electrical store. But, there were no pre-outs. How does this work? Secondly, I heard something about a firmware update, which enables DVD upscaling. Is this true, ans how do you know if you are buying one cabable of this? Thirdly, is it any good as a Blu-Ray player? (I think that will be answered in the next issue) Fourthly, What sort of quality HDMI cable would get best results without going overboard? Fifthly, can you select what resolution is output from its HDMI? (as my lcd is only 1080i capable)

It's output via HDMI, either as DSD into suitable receivers, or as Linear PCM.

Yes, they all are - if it isn't already running the latest firmware, you can download it here.

Yes, it will.

Wouldn't go mad: the usual QED/Chord Co suspects will do very nicely.
