Hello,

I'd like to connect my TV to my amplifier so I can listen to movies etc through my stereo speakers, but I'm not sure how to do this.

My TV is one of the LG Scarlet series models, and my amp is a 10 year old Musical Fidelity XA1.

What cables do I need to hook the TV to my amp? Is my kit compatible with eachother?

Any help recieved with thanks!

nb - I already connect my DVD player to my amp, which works fine, I'm trying to get movies which are shown on TV and Apple TV played through my stereo speakers.

Hopefully your TV will have a pair of analogue outputs for sound (red/white phono sockets like those on the back of your amp).

Buy a long enough interconnect to connect the TV & amp and you should be set.

If your TV doesn't have analogue outs, I guess it has a digital out. You'll need a DAC to convert the digital signal to analogue for your amp.

If you can clarify the exact model of TV, this will be easier, but essentially you should be able to do this simply by connecting the TV's stereo output connectors (which will look something like this):

using a standard RCA phono cable (like this) into your stereo amp:

EDIT - for some reason this took about 10 minutes to post!

Cheers for the quick replys.

I've tried connecting my interconnects which I use between the amp/cd player into the back of the TV, but get no sound through the speakers regardless of what source I select on the amp. Not sure whether I'm using the correct type of cable, or I'm being a numpty and plugging them in the wrong sockets!

TV is LG 37LG6000

Some TVs have audio input connections too. Make sure you're not using those.

EDIT: Just had a look at the manual. I think the optical digital connection is your only method of getting audio from the TV. You're gonna need a DAC.

Yes, looking at the manual for that TV, unfortunately it only has a digital optical output, not an analogue output. So as Big Chris said in his original post, you'll need an external DAC to perform the digital to analogue conversion. This DAC will have connections like the one you'd use to connect your CD player into your amp.

EDIT - gah, okay, I'll leave it to you, BC!

Thank you very much guys, I had a feeling this would be the outcome.

Got an excuse to visit my local HiFi specialist now

I have the same issue on this......is it possible to connect the TV to my CD-Players DAC using its optical input, and get to the amplifier via that?
