I am in the market for a new TV. I have narrowed it down to (due to size and space available) a 37" Panasonic. We watch mainly live sports and movies. Am I right in thinking that the Panny plasma is the better bet or should I look at the full HD LCD?

Any help/advise would be great.

Cheers

If you watch sport then you want a TV that can deal with fast motion. Which means that Plasma is the way to go. LCD does not deal with motion very well in my opinion. I would forget about full HD on a set of less than 40."

If you put Panasonic TH37PX80 in the search engine you will find a number of threads in the last month about this TV, which most people ae very happy with.

Thanks guys for the advise. Is there any other make/model I should have a look at or is the Panasonic TH37PX80 the best option.

Thanks again

Hi,My opinion is for LCD, first according to a lot of reviews that I have read recently ,plasma is being phased out for small sizes and if I am not mistaken only Pioneer still offer support and development where it goes to plasma.

Another thing is regarding fast movement is now with the 100hz LCD in the marker is somehow solving this problem ,please correct me if I'm wrong .To get bet results for plasma you have to have a room with little or no light but with LCD you can wach it during the day with good results. Is there any one who can test this Toshiba model 47Z3030D for a 47" size 100hz and for 37" model 37Z3030D.

It will be great if someone will give his opinion regards these models or compare them with other brands.Every suggestion /opinion will be appriciated.Joe

I have the Panasonic 37PX80 and am very happy.

My front room is a bright sunny room and I have absolutely no issues with the 'brightness' levels during the day.
SD images are superb as are Sports.

I don't care if the 37' Plasma is being phased out, this does not affect the performance or quality...
It is a great TV that I have bought with a John Lewis 5 years warranty.

The only problem with Plasma TV's is all of the myth's and scaremongering that is written about them!

You have answered a question I posted so thanks!

I wasn't too sure how Plasma would be for daytime viewing but you have reassured me. I was put off my someone saying his brother had the PX80 and it didn't look good when viewed in a bright (daylight) room!

I found that the glass can be a put of like the old crt's as it reflects. That is probably what he meant, other than that the plasma will pip most or all of the lcd's for what you want to watch it for. In the price range of the panasonic of course, as i cant comment on really expensive ones.

Thanks Conethirty. Great to know I'm on the right lines!

Dixons are doing the Panasonic TH37PX80 for £619, did you get a similar deal at John Lewis? Do the price match?

Thanks for your help.

I did get a price match with JL. They only price match against a 'proper' bricks & mortar store that has the TV in stock.

My local (Bristol) JL matched Sound & Vision, Bolton at £619. ( might be a little lower now...)

I got free delivery and a full 5 year warranty.
