hiya stereo family its Ian here, I don't know if anyone remembers that I have terminal MS and unfortunately only a few short years left BUT I have finally after 40yrs of building, testing and most importantly listening I have finely built my dream system and I am blown away. my setup is 2 x Linn lk199s power amp, Linn kolektor preamp and a pair of Linn ninka speakers. I listen mainly to streaming via a very sexy streamer by pioneer, one of my secret finds on eBay! also via alexa or as she is known in this home as the house *****! i also have a couple of cd players and tape decks. now I've bored you! here is my question, I have a large vinyl collection and play it through my rega planner 3 old type its the upgraded RB330 tone arm? I think so something like that anyway. after all the waffle my question with the system I have its showing up the limitations of my cartridge so I'm looking to upgrade so any advice guys? as you can imagine music and stereos have saved me this last year, i have been bedbound for over a year BUT! on the 11th of this month i get issued with a power chair! I don't know if you can imagine how hard this last year has been, but I have my dream system now so just need ideas for a new cartridge that will be more detailed than my current one. I believe the current cartridge is the bog standard that came with the deck. sorry for the novel but I do get lonely and I'm the only stereo junkie I know! so if you have an idea or just let me know what you think of what I've built. my ultimate record player I'm saving for is the Linn lp12! bet that would sound amazing. anyway gone on too long sorry!

Hi, i will recommend new Rega MM cartridge ND 3 or ND 5 for your Planar 3. Which production year is your Rega Planar 3? I use old Planar 25 and Planar 9 2nd generation turntables. On Planar 25, I have changed motor using Rega Upgrade 24V set. This was big improvement, combined with Rega Power Supply Neo PS for turntable. This was also real improvement. Also change rubber drive belt for new reference belt. I have very good experience with it. Rega Planar 3 with those improvements and arm 330 is a killer deck. Here will be new Rega ND5 cartridge just shining. Linn LP12 is not bad, but to overjump sound quality of Rega P9 or RP10 you will need a heavily modified one with whole raft of improvements on the board. I am currently thinking about new Rega ND7 for my Planar 9. I am sure this will be an excellent combination. And may be inspiration for you. Happy listening! BR.
