Hi guys i have been running KEF 2005.2 for a few years with a very old technics surround amp, and its time to upgrade would the Pioneer VSX-LX53 be a good choice or is it to good for these speakers?

Any other recommendations for this speaker package.

Thanks

Tim

It is said that the Yamaha's are good with the Kef eggs, so personally I'd demo the 1067/2067....

Or maybe even the Denon range as they have a similar tonal balance.....

Hi Tim,

Yes, the Pioneer would be massive overkill for the KEFs - good though they are.

As Pete suggests, either try a lower-powered receiver, or you could spilt the difference - sell your KEFs (they can reach decent price on eBay; our friends just sold a set for a good sum) and buy a higher-end set of speakers and a price-comparable receiver.

I agree with Clare the Kefs are great speakers and this amp deserves better a £200 to £400 amp would be fine something like the Onkyo 608.But if you can afford the upgrade on speakers then the Pioneer would sing with £1000 plus speakers.

With the LX53, I've kept my kef eggs for L/R surrounds and back, but upgraded fronts and centre to B&W CM8s. Seems to work very well. (Moved the previous front/centre eggs into a different room with a smaller tv.)
