Hi

What's the difference between these two and do the differences justify the price difference between them? Looking for prices on the LX5090 led me to the KRP 500A and I thought I'd see what people here thought....If it helps - whatever I get will likely end up on a wall as opposed to a stand and I'll probably want some 'regular' speakers for watching everyday tv.

Thanks

The difference is the separate 'media' box or tuner and a reduced panel depth, about 60mm on the 500 as opposed to 90mm on the 5090.

The panel spec is the same but the 500 uses a more powerful version of the picture processing software to automatically adjust settings 'optimally' straight out of the box. Having said that, if you go on some special owners forums it still is no substitue for an ISF calibration but certainly better than how the 'standard' 5090 is factory set up. You can achieve the same picture parameters with the 5090 though, just takes a bit more work.

Some say the 500 has the better picture. I could'nt tell you as I have'nt seen the two side by side but I can assure you whichever one you choose, its a very good display.

At current prices, why not go for the 500A if you have budgeted for the 5090 at prices only a few weeks ago.

regards

By the way, the optional speaker (or speakers on the 500A, as there is no undermount one available for that model I believe) is/are very good and there have been a few people that ordered them post tv purchase. Perhaps you dont always want your HT set-up on.

Just to add to that, last night I watched Oceans on SKY HD when a couple of mates came around for a few cans (I was supposed to go out but did'nt feel to hot. Might have had something to do with the night/early morning before).

They could not believe the picture quality and I have to say humbly, it was awesome ... but not as good as the Hannibal Lector version later on. The scenes on the piazza was like looking through a window, both at day time and night with every detail pin sharp, no artifacts and astonishing dark scene detail retrieval. Totally smooth panning at all times with no judder whatsoever. Colours deep, lush and smooth, never over or under saturated.

That was only 1080i.

regards

Watched the same oceans programme with a couple of tinnies too last night

I however had to watch it on the 'cloudy' Sony

Still not got the 5090 set up due to new receiver heartache (different thread)
