Has WHFS&V, or anyone else, managed to see a preview of the upcoming Pioneer Kuro LCD TVs ?

The 32" and 37" models are due to be available in Europe in August, so I would have expected them to be demo'd to the press by now.

Do you misunderstand? Pioneer Kuro means Japanese as Black. And the LCD doesn't do the blacks like plasma. Why Pioneer make only plasma screen monitor.

We've only seem demo units of the LCDs - if the sets go on sale August, i'd expect review models late July. We will of course bring you reviews up here ASAP.

When you say 'demo units', were they actually running and if so, any first impressions? (I realise we have to wait until you get a finalised version before you can give a true review but are there indications that they might be something special?) I've just picked up today's new copy of the mag and finally decided to go for the Sony 32W4000 based on te review and it meeting certain criteria but then I remembered about the pioneers and wondered if I should hang on just for another month.

I wasn't at the Pioneer launch, but AFAIK, there were only 'live' demos of the plasmas - i'll check with the team.

But even if the LCDs were running, doubtless it'll have been with the specially prepared demo discs all manufacturers use to flatter their new ranges - no way to judge how good any TV will be with a wide range of SD and HD TV and disc content. I'm afraid you and we will have to wait and see!

Thanks Clare. You lot must be loving this HDTV explosion, everyday there's something new to discuss and look at. I can't image reviewing TV's would have been this exciting 20 years ago (obviously you're too young to know). Seems to be a great time to be involved in the industry. I've only just started taking much interest (video games fanatic for 30 years though) and it's fascinating (if a little too serious at times)!
