I am recently the proud owner of the new pioneer KRP-500A plasma. I just have to say WOW! This could possibly be the best plasma, no best TV, ever made. The picture quality is superb with everything you throw at it. Stick it in Pure Mode and you'll be treated to the best picture straight out the box accuracy uncalibrated picture.

I don't have shares in Pioneer, but anyone who is considering buying a new TV (Credit Crunch permitting) put this at the top of your list. 64mm thick separate media box. I hooked my Pioneer BDP-LX71 up to this pioneer and WOW it's a match made in heaven.

Pioneer produce a demo disc showing the black levels & picture featuring flowers, black inc etc. I need to get this to show off to friends any idea where I can get the Pioneer demo disc.

Anyway this TV is out of this world

Hi Mikey,

Congrats. on your recent acquisition.

Sorry to start on a downer.I mentioned in another thread that i've been a little underwhelmed by the performance of the Pioneer PDP-LX5090 on demo. recently & Plasma screens in general for that matter.

My reservations regard Plasma screens relative lack of fluidity in movement & a slight lack of naturalness in their representation of colour & shade.Especially in comparison to the performance of my own old Toshiba CRT.

How does the KRP-500A compare in performance & specification to the PDP-LX5090?

I'd appreciate your advice & thoughts mate.

Thanks mate.

BABUR.

I have been very impressed with the KRP-500A the picture is beautiful when fed a Hi definition diet of blu-ray & sky Tv, this was the main reason for my purchase. Standard TV is suprisingly good on the KRP. My previous TV was a pioneer 434HDE which gave me 4 years of trouble free viewing and quality so I was always going to replace it with a pioneer.

The pioneer KRP-500 is only 64mm thick so even if floor space is a problem mount the TV on the wall. There is only one cable needed from the TV to media player which is a very slick looking box.

If you can stretch to getting this over the LX5090 I suggest you go for it.

Quote from review:-

I could go on further with this review than what you see here, but then I would run out of words to describe just how good this TV is. It's sister set, the KRP monitor has a few changes in terms of menu selection and lacks a media box, but it also offers identical performance to the A version reviewed here.

There are features I have only slightly touched on such as the DNLA streaming of pictures, music and video. These work extremely well and are an added bonus that many will take advantage of. But the one thing that keeps coming back to me time and again is that picture performance. If you are looking for the best TV on the market then this is the one for you. No other manufacturer can come close to the KRP-500A for its dynamic range, colour accuracy and breathtaking image. And when you go up in size to the 60" it just gets even better with that larger yet just as accurate image.

It's not cheap and there are some features it could have done without, such as the colour sensor. But in terms of performance and accuracy there is nothing else on the market that even dares to come close, I want one!

"The other guy" is Simon Lucas, our First Tests editor, who's worked tirelessly pestering Pioneer for products. Now his slave-driving editor-in-chief is insisting the products get tested by the team ASAP, too - all that and they're all working all weekend at the Show, too. So be nice!
