EDITED BY MODS - please do not cut and paste pictures from rival sites

UK owners of Pioneer’s BDP-LX71¸BDP-LX08, BDP-51FD and SBDP-LX08 (LX01BD) Blu-ray player are advised not to update their player firmware, as advised by the Pioneer UK website. The update, v1.25a, will reflash the player to Blu-ray Region A status, making Region-locked UK release unplayable. There is currently no provision of a step-back firmware release on the website.

That would be one way to play American BDs!

I have a BDP-51FD, and I find it annoying that the full range of features (mainly BD Live) are only available on Pioneer's most expensive player. (Not that I'm at all interested in BD Live, and have a PS3 anyway, but it's the principle!).

The current version of the update on Pioneer's website for the BDP-51FD is v1.25, dated February 2009 ...

More info

Pioneer UK is also offering a firmware update for the BDP-LX91,which activates BD live and offer the ability to decode DTS-HD Audio to Linear PCM. But it's not known if the firmware will similarly convert the status of the player from BD B to A, so caution is advised.
