Hey all. Just recently got my 5.1 system set up in home. Chucked a blu-ray into the PS3. And guess what, PS3 will not bitstream HD Audio!. what a peice of junk. I want my Yamaha DSP-Z7 to do all the audio processing.

Also i don't tink PS3 will play my kid safe backed up blu-ray's in mkv, with DTS sound. it downgrades to AC3. I'm really starting to hate the PS3, which i got a home theatre PC instead!

Does anyone know if the new Pioneer BDP LX53 will support MKV files over ethernet or USB?

I really need something to play these MKV files, Any other Blu Ray players that will. Or is my best bet building a cheap home theatre PC?

Thanks

As above, MKV files wont work on a PS3. I use MKV2VOB to convert to play on the PS3 (DTS works fine)

Ive just bought a sonyS370 bluray player that plays MKV files. Problem is its very picky about what it plays. Some work fine (havnt actually watched one yet, but when I was playing about even those that did work seemed to have a little 'shimmer' to them in certain scenes), some wouldnt work at all. I tried a few files that id converted to work on the PS3 and again, some worked and others were horrible (perfect sound, but horrible 'blocking' going on with the picture)

If your seriously considering a bluray player to play MKV files, make sure you look into them first as its been a bit of a dissapointment for me

Yeah i use mkv2vob too. DTS is played as AC3 on ps3 i thought? The DTS logo isnt coming up on the reciever. PS3 slim seems to have a few better features than the old fat. DTS HD MA, bitstream. I've heard bad reports about noise from the slim.

I'll give a few other DTS mkv. files a try on ps3. see if i can get it working.

Bigboss. does the panasonic play mkv through USB?

Possibles are the encoding settings are wrong
The PS3s seettings are wrong
Or maybe your amps got a PS3 compatability issue?

Ahh okay, Just converted Black Hawk Down, with set "output file extension" to Automatic. DTS logo comes up. YAY

m2ts must not be DTS compatible?

Hey AlienRik, When playing rips from the hdd, do you set your audio output to bitstreem or PCM?

I wouldnt swear to it, but im sure I have some DTS m2ts files

Think I have it set to PCM. That was so that when I was watching blu rays it played the HD audio on my fat PS3

However, now that I have a sonyS370 on bluray duties I might set to bitstream to see how that goes

Nice, Thanks big boss. I might have to check it out. Don't think I'll make a purcahse untill some new players are released later in the year. Kind of had my eye on a Pioneer, Marantz or Denon.
