I have just had a replacement Philips LCD following the failure of some part of my previous one. I now have the Ambilight model listed above. The same problem appears to be present but in a much milder form, that is in HD viewing, the blacks seem a bit "snowy" and it is does not appear as sharp as I am expecting. I have just ordered a new HDMI cable, will this be the difference? My current one is just the one provided with Sky HD. I've now placed an order for one of the What Hifi recommended ones.

Please help.

A better HDMI cable will certainly help. It's also worth checking that all the digital picture processing modes are turned off, as in our experience these tend to hinder rather than help picture quality.

And have you tried calibrating the picture using the THX Optimiser found on DVDs such as Cars and Star Wars III? More on that in our How to get the best from your TV video guide.

Thanks for that. What am I looking for in terms of the digital picture processing modes?

Also, I did not elaborate much on my first post. The failure on my first Philips 42 LCD (not ambilight) was an enhanced version of the snowy & non-sharp appearance. The TV was written off due to failure on some HD element/working inside the TV (sorry that's the best I know). There aren't problems with these LCDs are there?

Have you got the manual handy? Most sets have things like Digital Noise Reduction, Dynamic Picture Mode and the like (each brand gives them slightly different names) that can be switched off if you don't like the effect they produce. And what's your main source for viewing? The built-in Freeview tuner?

Sky HD. Tv has Incredible Sound, BBE, native 1080, active control, noise reduction and artifacts reduction. Also, separately what sound setting do I require? It goes 120 - 12000Hz on the equalizer.

I have the manual in front of me now.

Thanks

Also, where can I get the blue filter glasses from in order to do the THX adjustments fully?
