Phono Stage and Cable for older Rega Planar 3 (1998)

For current hi-fi duties I run a Linn Genki CD player, Linn Wakonda pre + LK140 power, Rega Planar 3 TT and Spendor S8e speakers. I want to move my TT further away from my speakers but this will require a cable run of around 3m. A previous post concluded that the best way to do this was to place a phono stage in between and run a new cable to the amp rather than change the existing tone arm cable. The Wakonda phono stage had a good reputation and I am wondering whether, for example, the Rega Fono Mini A2D would be a retrograde step or should I be looking a step higher. Advice on this and a suitable cable would be appreciated.
