Pindi:Even the Kuro, the king of black levels, has a grey screen when it's turned off. I don't think the colour of the glass makes any difference.
Only with direct light reflection, not in a dimmly lit room ... cheaper Panas (G20) on the other hand do except ... the V20 which I looked at today. Good blacks but a dull picture, no matter what I did. It just lacked vibrancy, just as the Kuro does.
I can hear the roars of disapproval to my comments but we watched a BBC HD repeat broadcast in a snowy, bright landscape. I ski regularely and I can tell you that snow does'nt look like that! A couple of Sony's next to it, EX503/703 had a much better stab at this and where immediately preferable not just with this particular scene.
Once again, some of the Samsungs impressed me with superb blacks, better detail, nice colour and the best SD upscaling on any of the tv's I saw.
Best compromise was probably Panasonics TX42D25. Nicely vibrant, lovely colour, hardly any processing artefacts and decent if not the best blacks. Top of my list short of a 3D model but I ain't going down the road of super expensive tellies again. Burnt my fingers once and I would'nt buy a first gen product of any kind for several reasons, price being only one of them.
As always, my opinion only.
You definitely prefer LCDs.
