Well I've received mine today from my local dealer we didn't get off to a good start with some dead pixels but the 2nd unit seams spot on. Personally it is different to the g20 with a nice gun metal trim with a silver line with an added sound base unit which does make difference albeit a small one and a step up. There are 3 internal fans in the back which are virtually silent in operation. Will just let in settle in over the next couple of weeks in the thx mode. First impression's on picture quality are indeed good and again a small step up on the g20 There will be a update on turning the unit on so keep a eye out for that

Hi I got mine on friday (42 inch) from my local panny store and i for one think its excellent. I managed to see a G20 up against a V20 and the blacks were far better and slightly sharper on the V20. I love it!!

The 42" version is out now and is available at most stores that did order them, we had our batch last week.

As for the 50" version, it is showing in stock at Panasonic UK, so shops will be getting those in the next coming days in their delivery schedule.

Can you please remind me if there's going to be a/the model nos of Panasonic's THX-/'infinite black'-spec 46-inch plasma?

Also, are you aware if Panasonic has made any tech changes to the 2010 range to address the, ahem, 'alleged' fading black level issues?

Thanks.

There is no 46" top end V20 this year, the only size's available are the 42" and 50". You can get the G20 which is a infinate black model (not infinate black pro) and is THX certified.

As for the 'alleged' fading black levels, ive never seen this problem personally but i have no answers about the tech changing or not if im being honest.

Is inifinite black pro more infinitely black than the already infinitely black infinite black, or is the inifinite black only finitely black? I think we should be told...

Thats a mouthfull Andrew, lol.

There is a significant difference between V20 and G20, the screen is kind of grey / black on the G20, where the V20 is black / black. We noticed a difference between the two even though sharpness, contrast etc seems very close but the V20 edges it overall i think.

Interesting. I'm looking at 42" tv's and have considered a TX-L42D25B LED/LCD. Just googeling info on the V20Plasma, it seems to incorporate certain Pioneer Kuro technical features like less pixel pre-charge etc.

I have not seen this set but wonder if has similar shortcomings of the Kuro, namely low light output, overzeleous dimming and some dithering dot crawl, visible from as far as 2m away.

If not and I'd hazard a guess that the 42" version will seem brighter than the 50 I will look at this set at the first opportunity.

hmmm , reviews of the v20/vt20 state that the difference between the kuros "blacks" and the pannys "blacks" are only barely noticeable in a dark room , side by side .. aint no mention of grey .. maybe the g20 is not as black ,as reviews suggest , but its the next blackest after the afforementioned kuro and panas , and blacker than every lcd tv

i guess this is a grey area ....

Yes, the G20 screen is definitively a grey area ...

It would seem to be an old model, then. I can't see 30%+ discounts on a brand new (and heavily-hyped) model.

Ha ha, yes, that is a good one

Just shows how ridiculous the marketing gimmicks are. And of course the contrast ratio is no where near 1:5.000.000

Even the Kuro, the king of black levels, has a grey screen when it's turned off. I don't think the colour of the glass makes any difference.

Only with direct light reflection, not in a dimmly lit room ... cheaper Panas (G20) on the other hand do except ... the V20 which I looked at today. Good blacks but a dull picture, no matter what I did. It just lacked vibrancy, just as the Kuro does.

I can hear the roars of disapproval to my comments but we watched a BBC HD repeat broadcast in a snowy, bright landscape. I ski regularely and I can tell you that snow does'nt look like that! A couple of Sony's next to it, EX503/703 had a much better stab at this and where immediately preferable not just with this particular scene.

Once again, some of the Samsungs impressed me with superb blacks, better detail, nice colour and the best SD upscaling on any of the tv's I saw.

Best compromise was probably Panasonics TX42D25. Nicely vibrant, lovely colour, hardly any processing artefacts and decent if not the best blacks. Top of my list short of a 3D model but I ain't going down the road of super expensive tellies again. Burnt my fingers once and I would'nt buy a first gen product of any kind for several reasons, price being only one of them.

As always, my opinion only.

My local dealer avensys based in copthorne west Sussex...

There's an AV dealer in Copthorne?! Blimey, when I used to live nearby, it was a village with a PO, newsagent/tobacconist (which sold Gitanes - yum!), a hardware store, a butchers, a baker and that was very much it.

Do you know if the butcher is still trading? His sausages were excellent, multi-award-winning beauties.

Oops, sorry to drift OT...

You definitely prefer LCDs.
