We are finally (but reluctantly) parting with our lovely old Panasonic 32” TV.

I bought it in 2010 after this review …

… and it has been superb ever since. It still works on everything except SD broadcasts where the signal gets very ‘glitchy’ (but only in the last 2 weeks). I’m extremely sad about this as it’s been a reliable old workhorse but I suppose 14 years service is pretty good by today’s standards.

We have a new Panasonic 40” TV on order from John Lewis next week and I hope we can get another 14 years out of that too. I’ve ticked the recycle option on the JL delivery/install so it won’t end up as landfill.

(I am welling up now so i’ll finish my update. )

Anyone else felt like this when getting rid of a TV?

That’s good going! We’ve managed a decade and thought that was pretty good. The latest OLED are dramatically better, though I still find it takes a while to dial back the contrast and saturation, and reduce or turn off the motion controls, once the new set is in place.

One thing you may find is the newer tellies seem to sound much less thin and tizzy compared to earlier flat screen models. Must admit I’ve never looked back, other than in amazement at how small the old screen looked!
