Hi, i'm relaying this message on behalf of a friend. This is how he explains what has happened.

He has a Panasonic TH-37PX80B. He turned off his Sky box using the Sky remote. It turned off the Sky box, but also put the TV into standby.

At present he has found no way of getting the TV out of standby.

He has tried - the TVs remote to try and select a channel, the programme +
& - button on the remote and TV. Turning the TV off at the mains for a while.

If anyone come across this before, or can offer any suggestions, that would be great.

Easiest way to check if a remote is working or not is hold the IR end up to a digital camera with a screen which is on, so you can see the image on the screen. Press a button on the remote and you should see a white light coming from the remote on the digital camera screen. If you see nothing, no signal is coming out of the remote.
Also, worth trying to press one of the buttons actually on the TV - pressing the + button on my Panny (under the flap at the front) switches it on from standby.

Ask him if any quiet beeps are coming out of it when it is first powered on. If there are, these are error codes similar to when a PC boots up, he should claim via warranty.

Hope this of some help

This happens to my ols crt sometimes wih my standard sky. I normally just play with the 'tv' & 'sky' buttons on top of ythe result and it normally turns th tv back on. Think the remote occasionnaly sends out wrong signal

Physiochris is correct. My kids used to do this to my CRT Panasonic all the time because they were too lazy to get up and switch the telly off by the power switch. The buttons at the top of the Sky remote are - TV, SKY and Power. If I remember correctly, pressing the SKY button switches between controlling the Sky box and TV. Mine was stuck on standby for ages and each time I pressed a button, the sensor light on the TV and Sky box would flash, but nothing would happen. You will need to try pressing the TV and SKY buttons in turn and see if that frees it up. It may take 2 presses of the same button if it's in 'SKY' mode. After this happened, I gave the kids a good bol***king and they understood not to do it again!
