Hi,

I read the Blue Ray systems group test in the August issue, which this Panasonic won. I was wondering tho - does this Blue-Ray player upscale DVD's? If not, does having a tv that will upscale make this feature on a blue-ray/dvd player redundant?

Alternatively, should I go for a good dvd system such as the LG HT953TV and continue to use my PS3 as a blue-ray player? I have a massive dvd collection but few blue-rays at present.

Cheers.

Yes, the Panasonic does upscale DVDs - and very well for a product at its price, too. Which TV do you have? Some high-end sets can outperform the upscaling of players, but not all TVs.

The Pana would definitely outperform your PS3 for both Blu-ray and DVD, but it won't be a quantum leap in performance - for that you'd be talking either a higher-end system or a separates-based cinema set-up

Thanks, that really helps. I have one further query though: The panasonic doesn't have an HDMI input, so if I want to play games on my PS3 in surround sound, i'd have to connect them with an optical cable, while connecting to my tv with HDMI, correct?. Aren't I going to lose the games HD sound?
