Panasonic DMR-UBT1 Bluray makes random motor noises while in standby mode

My Panasonic DMR-UBT1 Bluray recorder makes random whirring noises like it's reading a disc when in standby/off.

It's connected by HDMI to my LG OLED B5 TV. The noises can happen when the TV is on or off.

The random noises never occurred when it was connected to my old Samsung TV.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like an HDMI control issue, not a fault. Your LG TV (Simplink) can “wake” the Panasonic recorder (Viera Link) even when both are in standby. That can make the recorder spin up briefly, which is the whirring noise you hear.

It didn’t happen with your Samsung TV because different brands handle this differently.

Try this:
Turn off HDMI-CEC (Simplink) on the LG TV
Or turn off Viera Link on the Panasonic.
Or turn both off.

If the noise stops, that was the cause.
