PANASONIC BD35 VS SONY S550

Hi could anyone tell me if the s550 is any better than the BD35 ,ive just sold my ps3 after

reading about the clear winner in the november issue , im getting itchy feet as ive got the cash

but cant get hold of the pany it seems the availability date keeps moving out ,ive just seen the

sony on amazon for the same price as the pany. So is it worth waiting or have sony under cut the

competition with a cheaper more capable player.

your thoughts would be very welcome.

I think you will find that the S550 is better or at worse just behind the Pana 55. It's definitely going to beat the 35.

are you likely to test the s550 any time soon and would it be benchmarked against the bd35 or the bd55 , id just like WHF's view on which player to buy.

It's been mentioned by Claire that the Pana 55 and my Sony S550 will be battling it out against each other in this months awards edition. Claire said a while back that one of them edges it. She has also said that the Sony is better than the Pana with cds. The Pana got 5 stars so I'm hoping that the Sony pips it as mine hasn't turned up yet!

even if the pany pips the sony , the s550 is over 100 quid less now thats a bargain.dabs are showing delivered £279 im so tempted to just go for it but if the pany PQ turns out to be better then ill be mortified.when is yours due gerrardasnails

sorry for going on but would it be possible that the only difference between the 350 and 550 is the analogue outputs plus a back lit remote if it uses the same visual processor then surley the PQ is going to be the same in which the pany bd35 will have superior PQ.

would that be a correct assesment?

There's more to it than that. The spec might not show the differences but both the Pana 55 and the Sony 550 will be another step up from their little siblings. It's no different to say the Denon 1740 and 1940 dvd players - on paper they look pretty much the same, both upscale to 1080p and are the same size and connections. I personally don't mind if the Pana pips the Sony. I'm pretty sure that the Sony will get 5 stars too and will be great. For me, I like the fact that I will be able to put a disc in and my receiver and LCD (both Sony) will know what's going on and I won't need to press a thing.
