Hi

I have the panasonic plasma connected to a DVd player via HDMI. However, when i select the correct input , the film is not displayed. If i pull the hdmi able out of the Tv and reconnect, it all works. Anyone else come across this ? It's really annoying. The Tv is only 30 days old so not sure whether it is a problem with the Tv ?

Hi Staggerlee - just took delivery of Pana 58V10 which presumably has same system. HDMI is main proggramable HDMI and you can set it to SKY on auto. If Sky is off set switches to digital input on TV and as soon as Sky is on it switches to HDMI 1. If Sky is already on TV switches to Sky on start up. However, I have a Sony Blu Ray on HDMI 2 and the only way to get it to play is to press AV then select HDMI 2 and enter - quickly as it goes off - to get Blu Ray to play. My wife is not too happy with this so have ordered a Pana BDP 80 which will overcome this through HDAV4 signals and switch HDMI port automatically when switched on and even turn TV on. According to manual you have to select the options for HDMI on both TV and player to get all to work and if you have done all above then it is probably this. Please note I am not a techie and find all this modern electrics far more complicated for me than it realy is!

Good luck Brook

These two sound like more examples of HDMI handshaking/switching incompatibilities, which are the bane of many a person's life. The HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) system should be a standard, but manufacturers tend to have their own variations on the theme, hence the different names such as Bravia Sync, Viera Link, Aquous Link, Regza Link and so on.

When these variations collide, the results can be unpredictable, as you have discovered.

check that the hdmi cable fits properly - have come across issues where the hdmi socket is counter suck in the tv and the plastic surround of the hdmi cable prevents the hdmi cable been plugged in properly not making a proper contact and creates issues - had on both a sony tv and optoma projector so far and in both cases had to trim the plastic molding of the plug on the cable

thanks all for comments. Am buying the Sony S76 blu ray player so will see whether same problem exists. Could have gone for the pana blu ray, but the slow loading times put me off. It is annoying that a standard can't be agreed upon, but I suppose that is marketing to ensure that you buy everything from one manufacturer. It is annoying though.
