Ortofon 2M Black with Rega Aria?

Hi,

Would love to hear if anyone has tried this combo and how they fit together.

Best,

Peter

And the rest of the system will be????

Turntable, amplifier etc.

Whatever, everyone's hearing is different and I am sure you are aware there will be very few on this forum using those components.

Can you get to audition?

If not I might suggest you save a bit of money by going for the Bronze and I wouldn't pay for the Arias MC stage if you are not likely to use it.

Sorry, seems like my signature has dissapeared.

I already own the 2M Black and use it with a Rothwell Simplex, which I find a bit boring with a sometimes edgy top.

I know about the Aria's MC stage and really wish Rega would make a MM only Aria version.

I have found one used for 670€, so I wont be able to audition in my own system.

Best,

Peter

Ah, right. In my opinion 670 is pretty cheap but I would see if they will take less considering the new price. Buy it and try. If you do not like it you should be able to sell it on at little or no loss.

Are you sure that edgy top end isn't down to the cartridge?

New price? Has the retail price recently dropped?

The Black is bright but I wouldn't consider it edgy.

Sorry by new price I meant the cost of a new / unused one I.e. the retail price. This is £798 in the UK. Not got any idea what this is in Europe.

This is one of those things that you simply can't recomnend on a forum as we all have different tastes - and our systems are all different.

Personally I don't like Ortofon carts & the 2m black is no exception - however if you do then I can only see the Aria enhancing it - when I used one with a Nag 500 the vocals were a lot more airy over the inbuilt phono on Elicit R phono.

i doubt you will be disappointed - however you have to remember in effect you are buying 2 phono stages in one box - and seeing as the new Fono MM is based on the Aria MM part then it is very interesting how this would compare v the Aria

The cheaper MM stage may be based on the Aria's MM stage, but I don't think it comes even close. I wish Rega would make an MM Aria only stage.
