Oops! curiosity got the better of me

Just purchased Monitor Audio RS6s. There's no intention of replacing the PMCs. Had these speakers for so many years but sold them when the PMCs came along. It's case of whether I'm remembering them through rose-tinted glasses...

They've quoted 3 working days, so should receive them Monday or Tuesday.

What have I done? *shok*

Be interesting to hear your thoughts on the difference. I would imagine they are chalk and cheese having owned the RS1 for a while a few years ago...

Interested in your thoughts... I too have RS6’s and my last speakers were DB1+’s.

Now ive got the Arcam A29, which sounds amazing in combo with the RS6’s, however I do feel that eventually I will up my level of speakers.

Having previously loved PMCs sound/clarity that’s probably my next itch to scratch at some point in future.

Compared to PMC DB1+ the RS6s are IMHO better. The DB1i are different in the top end, but the size limitations means the PMCs will sound flimsey by comparison.

IIRC the TB2is are a different beast. Bigger, more textured bass (they have bigger drivers).

Hope you still have some dosh left for the turntable, or is that on the back burner now?

Has been on the back burner, due to family illness. The TT is still priority - and I can sell on the RS6s.
Yes, I recall you all had the lurgy, but looks like it still looms and these speakers are just a diversion! Temptation is a funny thing!

Not so much a diversion, just a sad, lonely middle-aged git, seeking attention. *good*

Another one? Get to the back of the queue.... 🙂

That will be an interesting read 🙂 Congrats for having the guts to go for it. I think Tucana will make them sing and you'll have a very nice dilemma on your hands.

However good your standmounts may be I find that it's hard to achieve what floorstanders can give.

I owned them originally from 2006 to 2013, so a few years on now it'll be interesting to see how they perform with the Tucana. The RS6s sounded really good with the Pulse, except with over compressed recordings - they could sound a little mechanical.

That's why it will be so intriguing to hear your thoughts after this time. I know PMC are very good speakers but myself gone away from standmounts and can't see myself going back. Floorstanders just give me more that I couldn't get with standmounts even with a sub.

Some of the worst speakers I had at home (RS6), at least in the context of the systems used with at the time ... Roksan K2 Amp and CD, Cambridge Audio 840 Amp and CD.

I know. You stated your dislike for RS6 in my first thread back in 2008. You preferred Kef IQ7 IIRC...

They should have sounded good with Roksan stuff, but having heard RS6s with Cambridge 850 the presentation was too clinical for my taste.

Thought I'd get the Pulse down from the attic. This'll enable me to give the RS6s a good shake down, by comparing it with it's bigger sibling.

Be back a little later when I've compared PMC with RS6s with Pulse and the Tucana.

With the Pulse rigged to the RS6 the first impressions are good: As I remembered the presentation is fast, detailed... and bloody exciting. After trying various tracks: Dusty, Costello and Simon and Garfunkel, it never Leema/MA combo never fails to engauge the listener. However, the latter a box-set of Simon and Garfunkel sounded a little anemic. By that I mean it sounds almost tinny and a lack of emotion, but the smile, somehow, never leaves your face.

The RS6s look really blingy with the grilles off: You almost feel like you need to garnish yourself with heavy neck chains and rings - and unbutton the shirt down to the naval. *biggrin*

The overall impression is they grea... no, they're not... they are good for the money

Part two will be tomorrow with the Tucana.
