Hi

I have been sent a disc to update my Onkyo firmware as it has started to show the DTS problem

They have sent what look like detailed instructions for using a cd player with optical out.

My question is- Has anyone any experience of doing this ? and any tips ?

Can you use a dvd that plays CD'S ?

Thanks in advance.

It is relatively easy to do. Make sure that everyone knows what you are doing and they aren't going to fiddle with the power (or remote control). The biggest problem is getting the timing of the button presses on the amp right. My 905 didn't show that it was finished and "hung". You're supposed to leave it for ten minutes or so and then just switch it off. Bit of a bicycle clips moment!

It should be fine to use a DVD player.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, I am hoping to give it a go this weekend.

Is it right you have to re cal the outputs with the mic ?

Cheers.

I think that's only if you do the main firmware. The DSP firmware done with the CD player, I don't think alters your settings. May be worth doing it anyway...

Hi

I did the update yesterday and it seems to have worked ok, all i have to do now is test it with a DTS MA disc

I had to reset the settings and re cal the speakers, I have noticed that since doing the update the sound from the virgin box is very low I used to be on 38-40 volume wise but last night had to go up to 50 to be at a decent level.

Did you find anything like this happening ?

No, I don't recall that.

I think there is a setting in the menus that allows you to "equalize" the volumes on each input (i.e. add a preset amount onto the signal as it enters the amp) if that helps?
