If it's a 4:3 DVD, he'll be getting black bars left and right. But I have no idea why gel wants to get rid of the black bars, which should indeed be present with non 16:9 material.

Or if he means he's getting a smaller picture in the centre of the screen from DVD it presumably means somewhere in the settings it needs to have upscaling switched on, rather than just displaying the native pixel width x depth the signal coming off the disc delivers.

Read the manual and still have no idea. The aspect ratio is 4:3 I think only on DVD and I need full screen.

Can't you change it on the tv? Although, just looking at my Denon 3313 and I have my hdmi tv format set to 16:9 and also my VT is set the same. When sky broadcasts at 4.3, it changes to this size automatically then reverts back when a 16:9 is broadcasted.

Can change it on the TV but it still not showing it right. It's the aspect ratio I need to change.

It will be in the players settings then?

->Picture->Smart Picture Mode
When this is enabled, the TV will automatically adjust to the optimal picture settings based on data it receives on the genre of the programme being played.
Set the option to On to enable this mode.This feature is available in certain countries only.

Cheers. I am not quite sure what to think to that.

If the native ratio of the DVD is 4:3, it will display as 4:3. Changing to 16:9 will distort the picture and make it stretched.
Yep, but the native ratio isn't 4:3. Apparently you can't change it either.

What film is it gel and do blurays play ok?

I've already asked what DVD gel is attempting to play but he didn't answer. I'm guessing it's a 4:3 movie and gel is trying to 'stretch' it to fill the screen. Hopefully i'm wrong.

That's what I also feared. But gel has said in post #22 that the DVD isn't 4:3.
