Cambridge Audio EXA Series

I'm probably sailing close to the wind for linking to this review. But even more interesting than the rating is what it reveals about the components, as ever sometimes what the specs tell you is completely nothing. CA knew precisely what they were doing.

Regarding value for money, you can't go wrong with Cambridge Audio. And with the looks and finish they're fighting above their weight.

Listening to my EX combo just now
Streaming Floyd at Pompeii followed by Steve Wilson…. Revelling in PROG this morning….
I must say the system is very very very good value mated to the TX9s
The value I think impossible to beat at RRP.

Has a bit of reshuffling this week with some equipment and some new incoming bits and pieces…
Shoved the Ex combo into my snug.
A couple of teething issues with the amp muting itself on HDMI selection, but I gotta say, I think this amp is possibly underestimated and underpriced…..
I had it driving my ATCs last night and it was completely gripping them with phenomenal transparency and control…. Really fleshing out the deep tones and controlling the sparkling highs.
It hasn’t quite got the timing of the Nait50 but it’s got a lively smooth and musical nature that’s a bit more laid back and not tiring at all.
Plugged it into my PMC this afternoon and that sparkling transparency of the ATC has gone, but the smooth EXA and the PMC groove and bass extension is rocking out.
For a £2000 amp, I do suspect it has its eye on the Rega Aethos and is not far behind at all….
Bearing in mind it’s for HDMI eARC, a DAC and what feels like more than 100W, looks great and sounds this good I am wondering why it’s under the radar……well done Cambridge.

Has made the EVO150 look a bit soulless and tonally bereft…. It’s getting sold….(class D and all that….. yeah yeah 😃😃)…..
