Hi all

I'm a totaly numpty when it comes to TV’s. So I’m still trying to get over the fact that I’ve just ordered a Panasonic Plasma TV. Hence please forgive the dumbness of these questions.
Having had no experience of this technology, could anyone offer any beginners advice on how to “run in a plasma” or even just get the best out of it.
ie do they need 20-50 hours of constant use before they settle down? Do they need to be on but tuned to static? Should the colour/contrast/brightness settings be to set high (or low) until it is fully run-in?

I’m sure you can tell I’m way way out of my depth !!!

Thanks in advance

Some people tend to run their plasmas at a lower contrast / brightness ratio for the first hundred or so hours of use to "run it in" (personally I haven't bothered on either of my plasmas and it's been fine but up to you if you want to be safe). On Panasonics, use the Cinema mode for this - should be fine. Then once this is over, calibrate it to your own preferences (using something like the THX Optimiser or the DVE Essentials disc to help you) and you're set. No need to do anything else out of the ordinary i.e. no need to run static etc. just use as normal.

Thanks for this Professor (I'm feeling better about my order already!)

Not having a Blu-Ray player (just an old Sony DVD, do you think it would be worth getting the DVD edition of the optimiser?

If its complicated, I'm going to struggle!

Thanks

Well chances are you already own the DVD version of the THX Optimiser - the Star Wars films, Indiana Jones, quite a few Pixar titles etc. all have it on the DVD. Have a look at this site to see if you have it already, then have a look here (Chapter 5) for some guidance on how to use it.

Told you I was a numpty. (The penny slowly drops!).

I'll have a look through my small DVD collection tonight in prep for the new arrival.

Thanks again

Serenity.
