No headphones socket

Hi I have a turntable,amp,and cd player. I would like to listen to my turntable on headphones. But there is no headphones socket on my amp. However there is one on the cd player. Is there any way I can use this to listen to my turntable.

Hi I have a pioneer deck, a Cambridge amp,and an Ariston cd player. £30 budget.

I have no experience of head amps in this price range but you need something to plug them into so I guess anything is better than what you have at present. You'll need RCA connection from your amp so look for RCA input on the head amp. Amazon is probably the best place to look, a couple of names could be Behringer and Fosi, failing that maybe any other Chinese brand.
N.B. Please ensure your Cambridge amp has a tape or rec output.
Any questions just come back, there's plenty of guys on here who can help, including me.

This little unit would solve your problem although I have no idea about the resulting sound quality.
Just plug the phono lead from your T/T into the input and then an output lead can go to your amp - not to the phono input but a 'line level' input like the Aux. You can then plug your headphones into this and won't need your amp on if just listening through headphones.

In your scenario, the amp needs to be turned off in order for sound to transmit to headphone amp but presumably the headphone amp cant be switched off if listening via amp and so how do you 'tell' the signal that you want it to go to the amp and not the headphone amp. Im trying to get my head around your scenario.. I have a similar problem in that my amp has no line outs (including headphone) and so i was under the impression that in order to listen to TT via headphones i would need to switch the TT out leads to headphone amp and then if i wanted to listen to TT via speakers i would need to switch TT out leads to amp. But your post suggests otherwise? thanks

The headphone amp (in fact, a phono pre-amp by the look of it) is always in circuit, and always on.

Your question appears to imply that you believe that from this box you EITHER get headphone output OR an output suitable for plugging into your amplifier. You get both.

And you don't need to turn your main amp off to plug headphones in. If you think about it, how would the black box actually know that you'd turned your amp off? And why would it need to?

I agree with 'good enough' above. The amp does not 'need' to be turned off but it might as well be since you are not using it to drive the speakers.

So if one were to put a 50 euro headphone amp/ preamp in between a 10,00 euro TT and 10,000 euro amp would the amp's quality never be realised? im making the figures up and realise i may not have a choice re the headphone amp but wanted to check if you had opinion. or is it a case of just listening to the set up and if i like it then its good to go. thanks!

I can't vouch for the sound quality of this headphone amp myself although the original poster above seems very happy with it. As far as matching goes you could spend a fortune on expensive headphones amps but I would have to wonder if its worth it. Maybe others could chime in if they have some better advice. Only listening works in my opinion.

I'm not in this place, as the headphone out on my Roksan K3 is superb.

But as an example Richers demo'd to me a DAC/headphone amp (i.e. for CD player not for turntable) and it sounded worse than the output from CD >> amp >> headphone jack. And not in a small way. As I recall the price tag on that (Cambridge I think) device was over a hundred quid. So listen to everything is what I say!

TT: Technics SL-1200MK2 AMP: Synthesis soprano tube amplfier HEADPHONES: Grado 325X. Thanks, it does probably come down to how it all sounds i suppose. thanks for your input
