I own a Sony KDL-V40A12U LCD TV which I bought a couple of years ago. Currently I'm using an RDR-HXD910 DVD/HDD recorder as my source. This runs through my Onkyo TX-SR875 and subsequently out through my B&W MT-30 7.1.

I am thinking of moving the DVD recorder up for use with a Sony S3000 26" TV in my bedroom, so I'm gonna need a source for my main system.

Seeing as my LCD is a few years old now (not that I mind, as I have no problem with its performance) and only 1080i/720p compatible. Is Blu-Ray a step too far?

In my situation would you make the leap to Blu-Ray, or would a high quality DVD player make more sense? (I won't lose recording capability downstairs, as I have a BT Vision PVR)

Advice please.

I think it's worth it - I use my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player, sitting about 9-10ft away from a 42" HD Ready TV, and the increase in quality between Blu-Ray and upscaled DVD is easily discernible.

Not sure if your TV is 24fps compatible? Might be worth checking and if not, see if you can get a demo run on your TV first to ensure the judder issue is something you can live with or not.

I very much doubt it's 24fps compatible seeing as it's quite old now (I guess 2+ years is an age in the A/V world!)

I am hankering for a PS3. What are the PS3s regular DVD abilites like?

It definitely isn't 24fps. However, after reading the magazine this month, I don't think that the judder would make much of a difference and as I've said previously, your receiver will output all the HD audio content on the BDs.
