Hi,

I have a creek evo amp and arcam cd192 hooked upto epos M5 speakers. I am after a warmer sounding small standmount speaker, as to my ears, the epos is a bit stark.

Ideally I would like to spend around £400-£500, but will go above if the speaker is worth it....

Have you not considered the new epos models, as you have a creek amp and a warmish sounding cdp i would have thought it was a match made in heaven, failing that the rega r1's are nice and cheap at the moment with the newer models coming out soon.

Hi seduct10n. You have a nice system.

You could try one of B&W's 6 series speakers but it could well be that after a short while you'd miss the detail and life of your current speakers. I personally think you'd find it difficult to better them significantly at that budget.

The way I would approach this is to find a good dealer that will lend you a small sub before changing your speakers.

You may well find it brings everything in line, adds warmth, enhances dynamics and helps to integrate the treble. This solution may not be for you but on the other hand you may never have heard your system sound so good.

Hope this helps.

What interconnects and speaker cable are you using Phil? You may find a change of I/Cs and/or speaker cable is all you need.

I used to use a pair of VDH's 'The Bay' I/Cs, but found them too warm for me, so changed to my current Kimber cables. I don't know if warmth is a typical VDH trait, but may be worth looking into.

Hi,

Thanks, it sounds very detailled, but sometimes a bit clinical to my ears.

If I spent more than 500, that would put me in the PMC etc category.... I know alot of people have been going on about the neutron v's.

I don't ming the £500 mark, as I got my speakers for £155...

I am using van den hul hybrid and dnm stereo cable. I am going to give dnm reson interconnect a try as this may smooth it all ot (I hope)

The DNM is copper core if I recall - I demo'd one at home recently - so it'll add more pep to your sound. Something with a silver strand might be good instead?

I believe silver would harshen the stark sound?

I'd say PMC may be a very worthwhile avenue if you want to soften things out a bit. The MS Mezzo 1 or 2 would also be a good idea imo. The tweeter on the Mezzos is the strength there, very calm.

Hi,

Would the PMC DB1+ or the PMC DB1+s be good match for my system and soften things out?

Also, what is the difference between them?
