My faithful old Monitor Audio Silver 8is have been fully redeployed as the front pair of my 5.1 setup. Which leaves me with no speakers for my arcam A85 [🙁] I plan to put my hifi in a small room, my study/office which is 12x10 ft, tops, so the speakers are going to need to be small and will need to be near a wall. I'm thinking small standmounts. I've got the Debut II and DV88 as sources. My musical tastes are mostly rock and classical. I suppose my budget is £200, maybe £250 tops. I did think about a pair of BR2s as they're supposed to be unfussy about placement, but wonder if they'd be too big for the room. I'm in no hurry, want to demo a shortlist. Looking for controlled playback, but want something I can listen to for extended periods...
Thoughts anyone?

Reckon you'll get some AVI Neutrons for that money. Fine small speaker. Aim high as the Arcam can take it.

Assume you mean a secondhand pair of Neutron 3s? Nice speakers, but are they going to be OK near a wall, as they are rear potted? I know pushing them back should emphasise the bass, but what will that do for definition?

I used to have the Dali Lektor 1's. I totally recommend them

3s, 4s and Nu Nutrons all at that price. Not many though some on Emporium Hi Fi on Ebay, also just shop around, but you won't find too many I would imagine.

Dali Lektor 2 would be my choice. I ran them in my study with my Naim Uniti for a while and found them very musical and transparent for the money.

The 1 is also good but because the price difference between the 1 and 2 is small, I went for the 2.

Thanks for the clarification

What about the placement issue, will the neutrons sing if they end up against a wall?

I understand they're pretty decent by a wall - you can check with the AVI head honcho at the HDD Audio forum; he's a regular there and will get back to you with a pretty quick reply usually.

Thanks again RS

will have to give the neutrons serious consideration, assuming they don't need to much rear space...

For your budget, I think they'd show the rest at that price range a clean pair of heels. Wish I had a pair!
