All this talk of new Regas' or an Inspire conversion . . . I've done nothing to my bespoke modified P5 for a while, been enjoying the music and appreciating what the modified P5 sounds like through the 2013 purchase of a lovely Icom valve amp . . .

But I am naturally a thinker, re invent the wheel regularly, by the way, did you know someone has actualy produced a 'square wheel' that perpetrates the rolling action???

Any how, the Inspire idea took my mind, a few hours of thought, and restless up and down, Hazel said "you have an idea dont you" . . . Yep, a bit of rummaging in the shed, by 5 o'clock Monday evening I had a bodge up on the P5 working. We spent the next two hours spell bound, our Rega has taken another step forward. The big improvements are a base line that simply pounds on the chest, deeper and wider sound-stage, simply more space space. The authority in my favorite Proprius pipe organ vinyl has to be heard to be appreciated with the ability to follow every pipe position in the loft as they play, awesome . . .

Now all I have to do is work out how to transform the bodge into a practical application . . . I'm nearly there in my mind, looks like the materials will cost about £50.

Nice to be back on the tweaking trail . . . CJSF

That was my first thought too ... perhaps a sandbox (I use 'packaged' sand in my thorens chassis as additional absorbant/dampener).

I guess it could also be some form of fluid arm/headshell damper.

We are all waiting in anticipation ... like coiled springs ... :)

Are cjsf and alears doing the night shift ?

That's dedication to the black stuff.

Hazel and me have Horlicks hour from 11.30pm until we have had enough, usualy between 2 and 3am, Hazel goes up, I have 20 minuits on the computer then follow, but lets be fair, retired, we dont have to get up too early ;)

Along the lines of the old 'Foundation' thinking, I've always wanted to something bassed on my original thinking with a TT. A mixture of 'Inspire' and knowing how the original Rock TT was constructed . . . a flash of inspireation and bingo, there is no doubt the bodged job works.

Routing around this afternoon for the materials?

It has to be said, the move I have made is based on getting the best out of the components. Dont forget, the bespoke and modified nature of my P5, bearing, sub platter, I have upgraded and changed the operating peramiters of the metal sub platter, Audio Mods arm, Sumiko Pearwood Celebration cartridge, both the arm and cartridge have been carfully installed, upgraded and or rebuilt, retiped in the case of the Sumiko.

So, the rout I am persuing now is getting the best from these components. The original Rega P5 TT is nothing more than a medium for the verious component to work at their best as a whole. Andyet the 'quality' of each component is drawn out and can be heard, I feel, a totaly new way to listen to and appreciate a TT?

Mine both flatly refused to go to Uni . . . :? they had the grades, in fact Victoria had her choice with the grades she got, ho hum . . . My dear Kathy passed away in 95. I now have almost nothing to do with either of them, life is a ***t!

. . . but life does go on I discovered, CJSF

So how long are you going to keep us in suspense cjsf?

No more to tell untill I have the job done properly, you never know, the proper job might be even better than the bodge up? I've certaily left myself some licence in going further than I could with the bodged proptotype? Its also possible to go backwards a little, fine tuning and all that . . . 8)

I still have it in me to get the best from my system.

Why bother? OK I wont, you stay in the 'dark' . . .

We're already in the dark! We're still in the dark! Unless you're actually prepared to tell anyone what you've done what help is this to anyone?

Nobody likes a tease...

I am guessing CJ has filled the arm tube with a mixture of lead shot and Horlicks powder and rebalanced it with a pile of Blu-Tack on the counterweight..

Perhaps he is now ferreting around for some depleted uranium - from the nearest Army practice range - to engineer a new, denser, heavier, counterweight.

Puzzled by CJ "bodge" reference. Is this a strange term of endearment, or an imperfection with some of the materials purchased?

Bodge = botch.

A temporary job done with whatever materials fall to hand until a more permanent fix can be executed.

Like a 'breadboard' used for prototyping circuits.

Watch Apollo 13 for very famous 'bodge'.

Yeah I know what 'botch' means. I'm trying to decipher CJ's terminology in the context of the thread.

He had an idea for a performance upgrade and did a temporary 'bodge' or experiment (with whatever he could find at the time) to prove the principle worked.

Now he will buy some materials to make a permanent and properly finished job of it. (Whatever 'it' is.)

And some Italian supercars. (Post crash analysis of Lamborghini car wreckage frequently turned up orange box wood - with tell-tale labels - used in the construction of much of their interiors.)

Their tubular space frames were tweaked (if a little 'out of true') by some bloke jumping on a plank that was wedged into the frame until things lined up.
