New MDAC - Concerns about heat

Hi Guys, Newbie to the Forums here. Hopefully someone can let me know if their experience is the same as mine.

In a nustshell my new Audiolab MDAC seems to run very very warm most of the time. I have two inputs in use from which to choose from: a coax input connected to my beloved meridian 506.24 and the USB input attached to my PC dealing with the music library. It doesnt matter which input I use - after about 30-40 mins the metal casework seems very very warm. I wouldn't want my young kids to touch it - put it that way. When using the coax input I think maybe more so (actually gets hotter quicker). If I leave it idle it will slowly come down in temperature but still seems uncomfortably warm. I've actually stopped listening sessions early because I think it is just too hot and turn it off to cool it down.

I've tried listening both through the headphone socket and via the line level outputs to active monitors. Whichever way you choose it gets hot.

Is this normal for this device?

It does sound great - but generates a disconcerting amount of heat.

Yes the Mdac does get a bit warm, but not to the extent of causing any harm. If its warm to the extent of being very hot to the touch then it could be a problem.

Just popped in to let you know I admire your user name 😉

I've never used the M-DAC, but similar products do get fairly warm. I put it down to the class A amplification used for the output stage. Most headphone amps I know of use class A amplification, but it does generate a considerable amount of heat.

I have an M-DAC feeding two AudioLab 8000M Mono Blocks; it does get warm and is completely normal. It's also an awesome DAC! I love mine to bits
