is this a massive backward step for everyone, or is it just me that thinks its the worst "upgrade" ever.

I can only presume from that statement that the old forum was the only forum you've ever used.

The old forum was by far and away the worst I've ever had the misfortune to use. If you copy and pasted text into it you lost all the formatting. Paragraphs all melted into one wall of text. Nightmare. The old forum code must have come from the Jurassic Period. This is more up to date, faster, cleaner and just needs the odd tweak here and there.

I'm sure it can be but this look is not a patch on how the great-looking site was.

I'll bet that other sites have tried to copy how the old look was, simply because there wasn't anything wrong with it, Why change something which isn't broken ?

This scattered BIG-LOOK is a sad looking set up for what was a great site...... why on earth was it changed any way ?

The old site looked, well, old! I also doubt if the coding could cope with or take advantage of the changes in web and forum design. There always comes a time when the old code become a bit obsolete and you need newer websites to take advantage of what the latest browsers are capable of.

I dunno if this is against the rules and a mod can delete this sentence, but if you want to see a modern website that this should aspire to then check out avforums.

The AVF redesign is almost as bad as this, and managed to see off plenty of regulars..

This is far worse than merely bad. I've worked making software for 30 years, and rule #1 is -- NEVER EVER remove functionality that users have been enjoying, and you have removed my ability to work here with the ipad. BOO HISS!!

I think they've been successful with their primary aim of giving the advertising greater prominence.

faster you must be joking.

almost impossible to use on ipad

Well, from the feedback form "Hello, we'd love to hear your feedback about our new whathifi.com Beta (test) site"

So, buggy and half-baked is pretty normal for a beta, but getting us to do the beta testing isn't normal.

Hopefully it is at least saving them significant amounts of money 🙂

well this used to be the first site at looked at most mornings - not any more

I hope they bring the old site back but it isn't going to happen I think.

Nothing wrong with change but this is such a disappointment.

Oh really? Except for you I suppose?

So in your opinion, anybody that doesn't like the new site is against change? Things can change for the better and things can change for the worse. The overwhelming opinion here is that this change is for the worse.

It's not working well on my nexus7 either. Slow, unresponsive and a ****** to read.

It also used to be the first thing I look at when have breakfast, and I now find it difficult to read.

Can't edit my last post now it took 3 edits just to type 3 lines, last time it froze up. It really needs sorting out.

I've got a hangover this morning and looking at this forum is making it significantly worse. Seriously its an appaling piece of web design. Dunno who the got to do it but they should ask for thier money back - assuming it was done by a school kid as part of an ICT project!

Yes the new forum is a disaster , I can't look at it more than ten minutes to avoid dizziness . It's a shame *dash1*

Everyone who claims to have noticed a difference is clearly imagining it. The rays of light from your screen are tricking your eyes into seeing a new forum design.

Clearly a change of code cannot make a difference and you're all talking 'nonsense'.

Seriously though, in 5 years when they change the design again you'll all be crying for this one back. I've seen it hundreds of times and like I say, people cannot handle change.

i have no problem with the new site, takes a bit of getting used to,and there are bugs to fix, like most things these days.

The new site is a pain - sad to say - all my posts have not got through on the new site. I don't know if this one will.

Every time I key "return" it jumps an extra line - i used to be a frequent, interested observer and casual poster. I can see myself giving up on the site now - it is just not "user friendly". Th older site had some problems - but in comparison the new site is just abysmal.

tonky

Another vote for site (I don't really care so much) and forum being disaster. Can't stand it. I just leave after a minute or two.

I'm only using the bog standard mains cable for this PC & my display, also the HDMI cable linking the PC to the monitor was only £2. Does anyone feel upgrading to Russ Andrews multi-strand for the mains cables & maybe a Chord or similar HDMI will improve the appearance of the new forum? *diablo*

IMHO cables make no difference however this type of laptop may be more suitable when viewing this site:

And where's all that rubbish under the image come from?

I love the way the first few words of the text become the title if you don't type one in.

The "i'm only using the bog" example by Neptune Twilight a couple of posts up is a great example.
