Personally, with your budget I'd definitely look at used. Try the Cambridge 651A for example which is a cracking amp,

Marantz you mention is a very capable amp but very much an entry level purchase. Second hand is where it's at on your budget. Marantz PM6005, Nad C320BEE would be my choices. If you can stretch a bit Arcam A85's can be had for 250 to 300 quid and are another level up from the amps mentioned.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

The what hifi budget amp of the year is the onkyo 9010 and costs £179. If you want a dac with it, there is the Yamaha AS501 at £199, and for only £50 more the Marantz PM6005. I suspect all of them would be better than the cambridge topaz you mention.

Is the way to go with a £200 budget.

my recommendation would be arcam.

There are several models available for under your budget, personally I've had the A70 and A85 which very good. The A80 is also good too.

older models can be found too, although these have the plastic fronts, which I don't really like the look of. But are very highly regarded sound wise.

You could be right but Lee specifically asked for new.

My vote would be the Onkyo already mentioned or the Denon PMA720ae.
