I see they have already changed the website for my 552.....

from

"When you build what you believe to be the world's best pre-amp, you put a lot of time and effort into getting it right!"

to

"When you build what you believe to be the world's second best pre-amp, you really just cobble it together!"

I love Naim. But it is now standard procedure on the internet whenever a product is announced to decry the company for not making [INSERT PRODUCT THEY DO NOT MAKE THAT ONLY I WANT HERE]. This is a bit of a boring announcement for me tbh, since it's not something I'm ever going to buy, or even likely hear. And apparently you can get £700 speakers that are better.

They do seem quite good value compared to some of this stuff though...

Shareholder?

Anyway, calm down. We aren't taking the #### out of your system are we?

I have a lot of appreciation for Naim (had an all Naim system for two years) and still haven't ruled out all future Naim purchases (almost bought a NaimUnitiQute last year).

But they do rather talk a lot of semi mystical 'carp' when it comes to a lot of things and they leave themselves wide open to be prodded and poked. It's part of being Naim I suppose. (Cable shakers, PRaT, wobbly mains connectors, people 'listening' to different kinds of paint etc.)

Anyway, despite the fun, neither you nor I (or anyone here i'll wager) can afford the bl###y thing so it's all a moot point.

They're not finished yet - they'll be milking this one, despite having not heard it... :)

As per usual David..................

Well hey, if they trickle down the technology to the lesser amps then I'm all for it. At least, unlike the Linn DS at the start, this isn't an incomplete experiment they're charging customers for.

It's funny though, nothing new from B&W? No new 600 series? Also, I was expecting Cyrus to reveal a new integrated amp. I see Arcam have announced their 200w A49 integrated amp, but their Solo series are now the neglected black sheep of the family - again nothing new.

Well this is it. Firstly, it might be absolutely stunning, maybe even a gamechanger as far as accurate reproduction is concerned - we don't know, we've not heard it!

Secondly, most people forget that much of the technology and design aspects of their existing system came from high end products.

It's a standard thing though nowadays though isn't it - keyboard warriors at the ready to slag off anything new (despite not having, and probably never going to have, first hand experience of).

And keyboard warriors who happen to be dealers always on hand to defend products they've never heard? Anyway, David, how good anything is can be worked out by looking at the price tag, remember?

Naim did a lot of things right last year, ending up winning awards. Cudos.

But seriously, 400+ kg and 700+ Watt in the apartment, hypothetically of course, is that the bulls eye?

The pre presentation film would suite ordinary consumer products better, building up a lot of expectation.

Ah yes, that little rumour that was started over on the "other forum". They do like to talk.

I'm not defending the product. I'm defending its right to be judged by those that have heard it.

No idea what you're talking about. I'm refering to your dismissal of products based on their price (which took place here, and certainly isn't rumour), remember? No, of course not.

I think LS50s are better than some more expensive speakers, so that makes your statement null and void. And yes, I do remember. Context is everything.

Of course, any decent HiFi mag would secure one of these as a reader competition prize, wouldn't they ?

John Duncan - I think we should be told !

I'll chuck in a pair of OLI RA4 loudspeakers to go with.

I don't think JD actually works for the magazine these days.
