Whilst they might have their limitations, your quote is quite frankly "rubbish".

He's entitled to give his opinion, same as everyone else. If he finds them rubbish, then so be it. The Op is being brainwashed out of what he likes (Naim Qb) into something he doesn't (Sonos), so at least it brings some balance. We already have the brainwashed AVI cult members on here, the Apple fan boys and Colin with Alphason. No need for any more.

so positive comments about sonos are brainwashing people eh?

What a strange thing to post on a forum about hifi, in which the host website magazine gave the product 5 stars

If the OP feels brainwashed into Sonos, I would suggest he stops asking for feedback and buys a Qb

Simple really isnt it

As am I. I was merely responding to a dismissive comment. I am not a Sonos brand fanboy. The OP might be looking for helpful advice, and the quote above is not helpful in the least. The vast majority of people would find a Sonos solution perfectly acceptable, musical and listenable, and nothing like a "boombox". Whether it is better/worse than a Muso, well that's for the OP to decide. I've heard a Muso, and in my opinion, it was OK, but I think I would still prefer a stereo pair of speakers be they Sonos or another brand.

I really wanted to like sonos.. I'm looking for a neat ' music in the kitchen' solution.. I did have sonos 3 on demo at home and no matter what settings I've used it's a boombox.. returned the item.. in store in a direct comparision sonos 1, 3 and 5 are all differently sized boomboxes.. thousands of customers might like it but I don't... they might be over thme moon and really happy with their sonos but I don't, sorry.

I think you can do better for the money.. it probably won't be as compact and with one cable though.

that makes the Naim Muso, Qb, Phantom, B&W Zep wireless also "Boomboxes"

oh well, I love my boombox - it places so much new music at my fingertips

That is what its about for me - music discovery and not being anal about the plastic box it comes out of

I must say as a newcomer and total hifi amateur i am astonished at the level of hostility in this forum. I am simply asking general advice or opinions as i am new to this, and after a number of comments due to a temporary absence, I am told i should have done more research (although i believe i should expect correct advice from a shop and dont think it is my own fault), and people are attacking eachother. Glad at least a number of people are understanding and attempting to help.

it took them 3 years to develop? should have spent more time as any sonos is unlistenable boom box. but then all depends what you've used to listen to.. if it's another boom box then you'll love it.

You've never even heard the new one have you?

Pay attention, the op hasn't even heard the new play:5, so neither you nor he can say he doesn't like it (and indeed he hasn't said anything of the sort).

You don't actually say if that's the new one or the old one, we've already had one person make that mistake in this thread. Anyway listening to anything on a store display is no way to judge. I won't attempt to defend the play:3 though, it's the weakest in the line-up, I wouldn't have one.

You're still talking bollocks about the rest of it though.

thanks for the welcome....i used to have a 5 channel system, then got out of hifi for 8 yrs....am slowing getting back into music...the last 6 mo has been mostly getting into headfi, and now have a good mid fi rig (cans/iems/mojo also exploring tidal hifi, some flac). I recently decided it'd be nice to have some sound for my apt (small kitchen and also in living room) that i can listen to while doing things and/or not having to plug into my headfi gear..

I just don't want to go crazy$$$ price wise ($1-2k is fine), because as we all know in this digital game, everything seems to to gets 'dated' a yr out...plus i have thought about wifi as i hate all the wires and fuss....hence my thoughts of checking out bluesound, naim muso qb or zepp...this said, however, I am open to suggestions if minimal wires are required....thanks.

Wireless streaming audio is not like traditional HiFi where you buy an amp, and 10 years later it still works. The WiFi device (whatever it is) does not operate in a vacuum, but requires continual support and update from its manufacturer to keep the software current as the environment in which it operates changes around it. I would only consider buying from firms that have a long history of supporting products of this type - and that pretty much rules out everyone except Sonos.

I have a box full of old Squeezebox products in the corner of my office. At the time, they were technically far superior to Sonos, now dropped like a hot potato by Logitech. I can't recall what happened to Simple Audio, but the message is clear - want that new streaming audio box to work in 5 years time? Buy Sonos.

thanks for that...too bad a bluesound rep couldn't come on here to offer a good rebuttal (not a sales pitch but real R&D rebuttal...maybe they will)....tough call...now you're at least encouraging me to also consider a 2.0 system that can do streaming and wifi in a $1-2 price point like in the link below

http://www.whathifi.com/best-buys/best-hi-fi-systems

so maybe that is what i will consider as well as the bluesound, b/w zeppelin, naim muso qb series.

still in research mode so this helps out.
