Getting near completion - a pair of ATC SCM 7s (new model) just arrived.

The usual ATC cloth bags

Glilles are wrapped separately

Very heavy - abt 8 kilo each.

Here you can see how much of a curve is actually there (which is not visible on ony of the ATC published pics).

I do not fancy the grilles but here they are - a grille detail shot:

The stands can be used in reverse and that is how I will be using them as they will be positioned on top of book shelves so need to point down a bit.

I am setting them up now - position, calibration as well as figuring out if I want 7.1 or will 5.1 do.

I did get rid of the hum - by grounding the (new) receiver. The hum was not a DM5 issue, it was a ground loop in my system. I returned the DM5 as the the sensitivity of input was too high and the senistivity of the signal sensor was too low for my uses. DM5s are great - I just could not use them in my set-ups. I still plan to go all-active one day, but I need to find a suitable centre speaker first.

Well yes, that's kind of what I was expecting.

I'm not sure I understand - how does that mainfest itself?

they look all right, plain but very solid style, finish quality is good.

Sound wise, I did not try them on thier own - maybe I should! I will. - but as rears they sound very good. I only tried them very briefly, did not have time yet to finish the set-up properly. this week-end hopefully.

Here is an update for those who remember this one -

The old speakers are still alive or rather reincarnated - converted into 3-way DSP Hypex-based actives with dual woofers (Dayton Epique 150E), SB Acoustics midrange and and SB Acoustic waveguided tweeters. The amps are Hypex FA 253.

This was my first DIY speaker project. I am now working on a second one - a smaller active 3-way with Hypex FA123 and Kartesian mini woofers.

Hi to all old members here!

Very nice, good job!
Amazing DIY!

Beautiful pair of active speakers you have there, highly professional looking speakers you created. Very much top end, what are your impressions of the sound?

The conversion worked very well. The response of the speaker is good, including directivity. I still cannot believe how powerful these small speakers are. With the 250W amp for LF and dual high-Xmax woofers they pump out clean 30Hz easily and go even lower. I did not expect that.
I am still learning Vituix CAD (amazing software) and have gained a fair experience with WinISD, Hypex HFD and REW - another amazing programme.

Here is the design and build thread if anyone is interested:
