Brillant setup! Albeit you need a bigger stand to accomodate your sky hd box. I love those interconnects. I also noticed that your subwoofer is connected using the high level neutrik cable...perfect integration to your fronts for a more accurate bass performance.

i have taken your advise and got a new stand which can now accomodate all my gear. i will upload some new photo's once i find my camera charger

Looking at your photos again and I'm starting to want to chop in my RS6s for the new ones! However, I know that would be a waste and I might as well wait for the Golds to be updated. They really are lovely though. One question, is the sub used for music or just for home cinema? I personally don't see the need for a sub in my system (for music). Oh and why did you get the Rel as opposed to the MA sub?

i use the sub for music, i was a bit sceptical that a sub could improve on an already excellent sound but i was blown away by it, i have the sub connected through a high level neutrik cable which gives me perfect integration to my front speakers for a more accurate bass performance, the monitor audio sub is ok but IMO the REL is better. plus i got it for a bargain price of £280

have you been given a date for the golds to be released? i was told it would'nt be for some time yet if at all....

no, Im just assuming they will change them fairly soon.

oh ok, when i bought my RX6's i was also going to wait for the new gold range, but i was told (and i don't know how true it is) that the RX8's were on par with the GS20's and that monitor audio had no intention of updating the gs20's any time soon, i did demo the RX8's but actually prefered the RX6's.

i have added a couple of updated pictures of my system, i will add some better ones when i get more time.

emotion-11.gif

oh yes, and they get better too
emotion-5.gif

how long do they need to run in stig ? dan has his just over 5 weeks , and he reckons they are not quite there yet ..

its hard to believe they will get even better

depends on how much music you listen to, mine took about 2-3 months but all my stuff was new, i did notice a huge difference changing my speaker cable and getting rid of the brass jumpers as well.

ive got my eye on some chord carnival silverscreen and chord jumpers

I have demoed the RX8's and they are not on par with the GS20s. Infact they are 2 very different speakers with the RX8s being more bass heavy and the GS range leaning towards the high freqencies slightly.

BTW - your speakers have been sold. What have you got in mind as your new pair Stig?

my speakers and subwoofer still have a couple of days left on e-bay so i've boxed them up ready for the lucky winning bidders, i am downsizing to some pmc db1i's on partington super dreadnoughts which are more in keeping with my size room. this was my compromise for getting a new car so it should keep the mrs happy!

Just had a look at your new revised setup. Very nice speakers with those stands.

How does the sound of the PMC speakers compare to the MA RX range you had previously?

it would be unfair to try and compare monitor audio against the PMC's as they are in different leagues in my opinion, the monitor audio's were good speakers and had a great build quality, and at first sounded superb, then after a few months when they were run in i noticed the bass was not as tight and sounded boomy, i tried re-positioning the speakers but could not get rid of the flabby bass, so i started deming standmounts which would be better suited to my room size (15ft x 15ft), i had a few pair of speakers on home demo first being the dynaudio x12 speakers, i really wanted to love these speakers as they come in wife friendly gloss black, they sounded ok but not natural and to forward for me and the bass sounded false, i then had the pmc tb2i speakers on and there was a dramatic inprovement these sounded gooood but they were just to big so i thought i would get the pmc db1i's on home demo, glad i did, they are awsome, tight natural great imaging and stunning soundstage, everything i had been loooking for in a speaker, plus placed on the partington superdreadnoughts loaded with atabites they got even better. im glad i have a good rapour with my local hi-fi dealer and am able to home dem different items otherwise i would have bought the dynaudios and that would of been an expensive mistake.

Nice how it worked out for you. When i went searching for new speakers i had Wharfedale Evolutions at that time. Speakers like Monitor Audio, B&W, Tannoy, Proac, Kef,... past the revue and when i heard the Dynaudio X16 wich i loved for what it did with guitars and piano in the midrange with my amp, it was emotional in the cosy intimate room i listened to them. It was long my reference until i heard the American brand Hyperion, the Hyperion HPS-938 floorstander in particular as they were sold as ex-demo speakers and suddenly came within my budget. I'm a big believer that hifi speakers should have a good part of realism and be true to the recording. Speakers that are in the proffesional market like PMC should have that. I haven't heard PMC yet but they are top of my list for an audition.

Craig M.:nice speakers!

cheers craig, im loving them.

I have just read the WHF Review on the PMC's and i noticed that they mention the speakers needing alot of power to get the best from them, and was wondering what they used amp wise to review the PMC's? anyone got any ideas?
