My turn :)
A is for amplifier as in very important part of hifi system, not enough current drive and you might as well don't bother buying a good pair of speakers
B is for Bob Surgeoner aka "Bob Neat". I was lucky enough to spend some time with Bob and enthusiasm and courtesy is 2nd to none. Neat brand deserve to be more popular in UK.
C is for class....as in different class of amplifier. We had many class A in 70's, class A/B in 80's and 90's with more and more company now heading for Class D in recent years including the HiFi giant like Rotel. I read somewhere that Class A run hot so they do tend to sound warm and Class D run cold so they sound a bit dark! Easy life being HiFi reviewers :)

D is for Dire Strait. They may make the most boring albums for the world but for us WOW...listen to that soundstage. Did you hear the sound of glass smash on 2nd track? How real was your system sound?! SAD but TRUE!

E is for Ebay! You can't afford brand new HiFi? No problem, just log on to Ebay and here they are...anything you could want from 70's Technics amp to a brand new Mark Levenson mono blocks.....bid at your own risk though, I spot 12 scammers in just 1 hour today.

F is for Feng Shui! but in HiFi term. Speakers placement, big thick carpet and curtain include where do you put your bookcase in the room? Don't knock it until you try it, the different ti HiFi sound is massive when done correctly.

G is for Gotham cables. The living proved that you don't need to spend silly money on cables to get a great sound. Not the best by any mean but good enough to sell by a buckets load without advertising and I am one of many satify customer.

H is for HiFi....what else? A silly hobby that got you to read my post this far (still few more letters to go yet!)
I is for Isolation. which can improve the sound of your HiFi. Turntables and cd player should get the big benifit while amplifier and speakers improvement are more debatable imo.

J is for Japan. Top design and build quality. Esoteric and Kondo are just two examples of highly regards hifi brand that come out from Japan.... If you think the Brits are nuts about sound system, wait until you seen Japanese hifi show!
K is for Kilowatts. Musical Fidelity just introduce 750 KW superchager! Obviously the 550W wasn't enough for somebody Doe!

L is for Linn. I would like to dedicate "L" as an life time achievement award for Linn Electronics. (Living voice come in as a close 2nd). Here we have a good old British company that keep on release top quality electronics, year after year! Linn LP 12 is the most known single HiFi product in the world and Linn CD12 is highly regards worldwide as the CD player to beat at any price. .....L is for Long Live La Linn.

M is for Media as in Magazine, internet, television and such like. Without them, we wouldn't know what is to demo! (this week :) Thank you.

N is for Naim! Nothing else quite like them although Densen come close. Bright-ish treble, close in Midrange and bass that tueful but never go down quite low as other. Yet, Somehow Naim manage to get you where it count most...."hair on the back of your neck". I never heard the highest end Naim (555/522/520) but for those who did I am sure that they will spend the next 10 years paying off the credit cards.

O is for Opus21, the most hype up cd player I have seen since taking up the hobby, every magazines write up some of the most fantastic reviews about it....I wish I have different ears!
P is for Phono stage. The pricey option for many amp but essential for those who does own a turn table (obviously!)

Q is for that magic "Q" at the end of Cyrus CD7. How did they do it! Improvement over the standard CD7 was amazing.
R is for Richersound! Not so much now but back in late 80's - Early 90's, most of HiFi lovers start their long Journey from Mr.Julian's shops. Stack them high and sell them low with great back up warranty.

S is for Skepticism. Do Mediums can really speak to spirits (or Ghost), Is there a life after Death? Can Hifi cables improve sound of your HiFi system?

T is for Turn Table.....can still put up a good fight with the Top of the range CD player that fully arm with upsample DACs, lots of big power supplies and Crystal clock. I really need to get one!

U is for Unison Reserach Unico, bring Hybrid design in to mass market. Sound lovely.
V is for version! Some HiFi gears have so many version more than I care to remember! Why can't they just change the products name instead of aa mk1, aa mk1.2, aa mk2.4 etc...etc.

W is for What HiFi and Vision :) The best selling home entertainment magazine in the world....Hey, I am not a creep!

X is for X-ray as in Musical Fidelity cd player that so highly regards when it first came out. I couldn't remember all the version though :)

Y is for YUGOSLAVIA! I have this feeling that in few years time there will be more and more quality HiFi eqipments coming from this country. The 2 brands that already make a big hit here in UK are Karan and Edgar.
Z is for Zen as in Acoustic Zen, my new pair of speakers....sublime :)

Ha Ha. Take it easy, switch the hifi off (it wont do any right today) and watch some tv or go and listen to some live music man. You could have a spliff though of course I would never endorse the use of recreational drugs with hifi problems or otherwise. Total disclaimer.

Then tomorrow go and borrow a supernait and look at the bright side. You could have mis-spent over 2k but you only 'wasted' 800 quid. See, its not all bad.

Deep breath, deep breath...I was watching TV and then it hit me...why don't I do homecinema?! I must be able to refund my Arcam and get a home-cinema reciever and some decent rear speakers and a sub and then I'll get the old 28" from the garage...or is home-cinema just the same?

Your probably right, but the dealer (Overture, Banbury) don't do Cyrus. They do Naim though, but I'm not sure on having a "dry" sound...and the dealer asked only last week "you like the Arcam" and I went "yeah, yeah" thinking in my head "No I don't, I prefered my Vintage JVC. Tell him! Tell him!". I didn't though. : (

You know, my hi-fi problem is very much down to the room it's in too. The accoustics are awful. When I took it downstairs, I loved it...I have the speakers around 50cm from the wall and listen about 3 meters away with the speakers nearly 3m apart with them toed in so the tweeter is just behind my ear, but the soundstage doesn't exist! How can I solve the problem? Smaller speakers?

What I'm going to tell you may surprise you ...

cyrus 8vs2 and Rega R3's ... no really ... I promise I wont mention it again (to you) but it really is one superb system and I've heard many. It is equally comfortable in smaller as well as medium large rooms. It does'nt boom given a tiny little bit of tlc in setting it up (the regas are about as 'place and forget' as any speaker I know whithout the compromises of superminis such as the pmc's I just had) and it sounds great at low and high volumes. Detail, punch, scale, focus ... you get the idea. Next move up from the Regas imo are ProAcs Studios.

Def a speaker change required here. Drummerman is right, give the Rega R3s a spin. Had a look at a pair in Nottingham at the weekend. You'll be very surprised...
