Musical Fidelity m5si - position it on its side?

I have a m5si and due to some space restrictions, I would like to place it sideways - on its left side.

This is the opposite side of the power supply, so there shouldn't be any overheating issues.

It seems like the form factor can bare the load / weight of the apm while being on its side.

But i'm wondering if anyone had any experience with something like this.

Thx

That is a very bad idea. For proper convex cooling you must keep the amp in the proper horizontal position. If it was fan cooled amp with a heatsink tunnel, it wouldn't matter. However, even in many fan cooled amps there are transistors with convex cooling by passive heatsinks throughout the PCB, which again means it must remain in default position.

You might want to consider the NAD D7050.

Good point. Does the NAD sound anything like the m5si?

Agreed on the convection cooling problems: all kinds of damage may be caused by hot air rising in the wrong directions, and thus applying heat where it wouldn't normally be expected. Also all the mounts for the boards, transformer and so on will be designed to take their weight down to the chassis, and having those components effectively 'hanging in mid-air' may not be too good for long-term reliability.
