I’ve been using the Audiolab 8000AV/8000x7 combo for over 4 years now, and it still does a great job with DVD audio. However, my blu-ray collection is growing and I would like to take advantage of the hi-def audio available.

I’m not keen to part with my 8000AV, so what I’m ideally looking for is a quality standalone multi-channel DAC to decode the audio for the 8000AV and pass-through the HDMI video signal to my TV. Any ideas for less than £500?

I assume another option would be to purchase a new blu-ray player with the ability to decode the audio internally and pass it through to the 8000AV.

That's what I would do and should save you some cash in the process, check out the Panasonic DMP-BDT500 (around £300)
