Hi folks,

I'm sure there are plenty of you who have experienced the stress of moving home, particularly with your home entertainment products so i need some advice.

I'm moving home in a few days (from Stoke to London, so long haul!) and will be taking my 42' Plasma with me (Panasonic TH42PX70 on it's designed stand for the record). I've never moved a Plasma before so would like some advice on the best method of 1) protecting it through transportation and 2) the best method of securing it from moving around.

My understanding is to not lie it faceup/facedown whatsoever, so i'm considering wrapping it in lots of bubble wrap and keeping it on the stand, perhaps wedging it between other heavy items (sofa/chair etc) to stop it from moving during transport.

Any suggestions or advice would be very much welcome.

Many thanks,

Matt

The original box is the best answer, but yes i would wedge it very firmly as you have suggested, with lots of bubble-wrap and, for preference, a sheet of ply or MDF taped over the screen.

Lots and LOTs of bubble wrap. You can never be too careful. Not sure about why it cant be put down flat either upright or downward facing....

It's either because all the plasma will run down to one end

or because the chances of the glass flexing and thus breaking are much greater when the set is flat. Or something.

I'm also faced with a similar situation. Therefore the responses here are quite useful to me as well. Thanks. Just one small clarification - what exactly is 'MDF tape' - pls excuse my ignorance ! :)

professorhat:MDF is Medium Density Fibreboard (used in DIY shows on the TV a lot) and Andrew's suggesting a square of that is taped over the screen to protect it.

Cheers !
