Hughes123:lonely boy:Hughes123:Lonely Boy, are you a member of headfi.org?

I used to hang around there 3-4 years ago, I do occasionally pop in once a month to see what's going on, but I don't like the place so much now, it may be me, but the atmosphere isn't quite like it used to be.

Oh right - I just got myself a username and 8 posts in - seems a great place so far, but maybe I'll be proved wrong! Anyway, I'd better not promote other forums if Mr.E's out hunting again...

Yes, it still is a great place, but they don't say "sorry about your wallet" for nothing!

Hughes123:Also Lonely Boy, do you think the X-CANv8 is better than the Heed Canamp (I think that's its name) and the icon Audio one?

Unfortunately, I've never heard the X-Can so I couldn't say. They are both fine amps, but it always depends on what you are going to drive with it. I bought the HP8 solely for my HD650's, I thought at the time that the Sugden was a little too cold sounding, I was then starting to listen to classical music again after many years listening to far more austere stuff, so it was time for a change.

Also as the Sennheisers are high impedance so valve amps are considered more suitable as you may have heard. I'm really pleased with this combination - smooth, as in the music literally flows like liquid, very good dynamics, very musical, I could go on... I've never heard Richard Strauss's Metamorphosen sound so hair raising! anyway thats enough of me blabbering on about that.

The CanAmp, so I've heard favors the AKG 701's, though it is good with the HD600's, I may grab a pair in the near future, yep another pair of bl**dy headphones!

Sorry to go on without answering your question, so matching is what it's all about!

I got my AKG K701s yesterday and spent last night listening to them instead of testing out a new bed with the wife (much to her obvious disapproval)... I drove the 701s directly from a Squeezebox Classic (playing Apple Lossless files) as I don't have a headphone amp yet (I'm considering either a Benchmark DAC1 or Musical Fidelity X-CAN V8)... I also tried driving them with the headphone output of my laptop but it sounded vastly inferior to the Squeezebox ... To say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the 701s so far is a major understatement... I finally understand the reason some people prefer headphones to loudspeakers as the value for money is so much better...

I'll save giving a proper review until the phones actually have sufficient hours of break-in... but for now I'm very satisfied...

ÿHave you run your headphones in now? Mine have broken in very nicely now (Leaving them on while I'm in bed, playing itunes)

I read over in the headfi forums that they take 300hrs running in to really start to shine, and its true! ÿ

Did you decide on a headphone amp to pair them with?ÿ

LOL... I think my wife would be even more offended if I tried that...

I got the Benchmark DAC1, since I figured I could always use it as just a DAC, if turned out to be a mediocre Headphone Amp... But having used if for almost 2 weeks, I won't be buying a different amp... the Benchmark/AKG combo is sounding way too good to risk messing things up with a different amp....

I wrote a review of my setup on Audioreview:

Well, this is what I ended up with:
Senny HD600

Project HeadBox II

And say "Goodbye" to my GS1000s - I managed to get the full price I paid back for them, which was brilliant! They were absolutly awsome headphones, but not good enough to stop me buying 100CDs!
