Hello

I was wondering which speaker system I should by and I have shortlisted the three below. I'm on a tight budget of £500-£600 max for BOTH a speaker system and receiver, and I was thinking about getting the Sony STR-DH820 which costs £200, thus leaving me with around £300 for the speaker package. I have a fairly large room of around 7m x 7m, though I won't be turning the volume up ridiculously loud. The three packages I'm considering are:-

Canton Movie 125 MX 5.1 £200

Tannoy HTS 101 5.1 £330

Monitor Audio Vector 5.1 £300

The Canton and Tannoy both received 5 stars from What Hifi. The Monitor Audio received four stars but that was at a price of £700.

Therefore would the Monitor Audio be better than the other two, or would you recommend the Tannoy of the Canton?

Other suggestions would be very much appreciated.

What is your opinion on the above?

Hi there,

Speaking from Personal experience the Tannoys and Sony work extremely well together and you wont be dissapointed. I havent heard the MAs though so if you can get the chance to demo them too i would recommend that of course.

All the best

AndyWright,

Thanks for the reply, do you know if the Tannoy's will be adequate for a large room?

Also, how big are they in relation to furniture etc, preferably I'd like to have speakers which stand out and look good and so I'm not sure if the Tannoys fit that bill compared to the slightly bigger Monitor Audio's.

Hi again,

For a medium room they are fine and I can't imagine they'll be too much different to the MAs in sound quality if you are using the Sony amp.

They don't stand out but are rather discreet which I like and their sound is great. Again try and see / listen to them, if you can, to make your mind up. Cheers.

Regards
