Hi,

(I live in Brazil, so limited options)

I have the option, for virtually same price (30 USD difference) to buy either a pair of Monitor Audio Bronze 200 6g or MA Silver 300 4g

Are there any big improvements from 4G to 6G in Monitor Audios Towers? is it worth an older generation (4G) to improve from Bronze to Silver?

I am buying the speaker first and then deciding the Amp. If i go with Bronze 200 then i think Marantz pm6007 would be a good fit. For Silver 300 i think more power would be needed, so i should get a CA AXR-100 (to get the digital imputs), or Yamaha AS301/501

The room is around 40m2

(Edit: Its for music only, pairing with Rega RP1 and a CD transport, i usually listen to classical music, classic rock, blues, Jazz and prog rock)

Thanks once again for the help!

Hi Yorking,

to your questions:

1. Monitor Audio Silver line is for sure better than Bronze Line. My personal experience is, Bronze line has better value in relation to price than Silver line. Bronze is already very good. Silver is more precise with better hifi system.

2. My friend has living room smaller than you with some 30m² and uses Monitor Audio Bronze 500 floorstander with Marantz amp PM7000N. And some Project turntable with my old Rega Aria phonostage. And it sounds very good. Sound is fast quite full with good soundstaging.

3. For a room like 40m², you need bigger speakers like Bronze 200 or Silver 300. Speaker like Bronze 500 is sensitive, not so demanding on the amp. Combination with Marantz or Cambridge Audio will work better than Yamaha in this price range. Yamaha is very good in ranges above 2000 eur for the amp.

I hope I can help you with the orientation in this range of hifi.

Best regards. Juraj

Thanks Juraj,

So between MA Bronze 200 6G (6th generation) vs Silver 300 4G (4th generation) you would go with silver 300 ?

Is it too hard to drive? do i need CA AXR100 (sacrificing a bit quality for power) or Marantz PM 6007 can drive the Silver 300s ?

Thanks!

Hi,

I recommend to take larger Silver 300 speakers.

Regarding amp, Marantz PM 6007 is very respected amp for years. Sonicaly it will be some 20% better than CA ARX100. Pls. take this category amp as some basis for such category of speakers. But it is very good basis. Marantz is very musical not cold not analytical. Even some old "brush" rock pop music will be listenable. This is also valid for Monitor Audio and Cambridge Audio. And Rega turntable isbexcellent choice ( I have two P25 and P9 for years at home😅)Also Rega amp (even Brio or Elex) will sound very good with Monitor Audio speakers. I still have last version of Rega Brio amp and love it a lot. It sounds a lot like good vacuum tube amp with more power. Very good for ckassic, jazz and vocal music. And phono MM inside is a top notch.

Best Regards, Juraj

Thanks once again

I spoke with the sales representative, and the MA "Silver" 300 is actually a MA Monitor 300, this one:

Do you think it still sounds better han the Bronze 200 6g ?

Unfortunately it's one of those cases where nobody can really tell you. Speakers are very much dependant on the individual.
You are going to have to make the decision yourself.

THats the problem... i cant audition them... you can only buy this type of stuff here online and thats it - so i am trying to get as much info as i can before deciding.

Anyway, the Monitor 300 has been discontinued on 2022, perhaps there is a reason for that

Quite simply no difference. Buy what you like the look of in regards to the speakers.

Monitor audio can sound a little forward and would certainly go well with Marantz and Cambridge as they have slightly more laid back presentation. You might like to try Roksan Monitors in house brand of amps they should partner ideally. Weather you like the sound is another story.

Yamaha can sound quite forward but doesn't mean thats bad!

it really depends what sound your after really lively and big or cosy and smooth (though can still sound big).
