Mid to high end headphones not made in China - what is there?

Ok, it appears that some models of Audio Technica aren't made in Japan. How about the ultimate high end headphones, Stax? They're made in Japan.

Thanks again for all the suggestions - but was really looking for any opinions/experiences about these Aedle VK-1s... should probably have started another thread for that. Quite like the STAX in a funny sort of way, and as for the LCD-X well I'm sure they sound amazing (and that's the point) but that's a *big* price tag - and while they would likely please my ears, they would definitely hurt my eyes! Only their mother could love the look of those things!

Yes, you are right LCD-X is HUGE and HEAVY and I also don't like its look but it sounds really wonderful.

If you prefer somethig light then go for Senn HD800 which is also not make in China. I got two pairs of HD800s at home in additional to LCD-X
