Hello there, anybody fancy giving me some tips on the following:

I have a couple of macbook pros at home containing mine and my other half's music, photos and music and want to be able to back them both up to a single NAS and then stream to my HDTV and home cinema system. I'm keen to use my Xbox 360 (which is connected to my Denon 1910 amp via HDMI) as the NAS interface.

Can anyone recommend suitable products and provide any info on pitfalls - for example, will I get Dolby 5.1 if streaming movies?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I use a simple WDTV Live connected to a synology NAS. works like a charm. The only downside is that you have to have your TV on to navigate the NAS. If this is not an issue for you, then the Xbox to the NAS would be fine.

But something like a squeezebox or sonos would suit you really well here.

Dolby 5.1 streaming all depends on if its coded on your media file.

For example..I play BD 1080p rips like this: NAS > WDTV Live HDMO > Amp ... no problems with DTS or 5.1.
