Hi all, this is my first post, sorry if my english is not perfect, not my main lang.

I live in a small town i have not the chance to test the amps before buying

I can get a Marantz pm7003 for 399 EUR, a Yamaha A-S500 for 329 or a Yamaha A-S300 for 279.

I love the looks of the Yamahas, but i'm not sure about his sound (several people say the sound is too bright.., but don't know if i'm gonna hear that).

Anybody knows how this ones are related to each other in terms of quality and sound signature?

Im going to use the amp in a bedroom (about 12 m2) and my source is a PC via External DAC , my speakers by now are old Yamaha NX-GX5 from an old stereo reciver/amp who died after 15 years of faithful service. The speakers are 6 ohm, 75 w power max (first im gonna try with them, then if not enough i can upgrade)

Thanks!

The other one to consider is the Marantz PM6003, I had been thinking about a new amp and would be interested in how the Yamaha A-S300 compares with the 500, the spec is very similar.

Yes, i think the pm6003 is aserious candidate too.

Anybody knows why pm7003 is already cheaper than pm6003? one could say by model number that pm 7003 is a high tier one.

I just bought a PM 7003 after listening both A-S500 and 7003. The yamaha is very very very harsh!

I had to replace my old Arcam D290 and this is the more close I could get by listening to several amps

(Nad 352, nad 355, a-s500, a-s700, PM 5004...)

Has also to do with the speakers used in the auditions...

~yes yamaha can be very clinical and bright.the loundess to - 1,5 can reduce all major brightenss..but iI still find some harshness to sound...meaning not very smooth sounding.
